If you log onto Gears of War today (1/22/07) you will notice that Epic has released a second patch available for download.
Oddly enough, there has been no news as to what this new patch actually fixes. A quick look at the Gears of War official forums reveals no news from Epic and no list of changes or updates. What is even more surprising is how fast this update has been sent out after an already large patch only a few weeks ago.
Obviously there are still several remaining problems with the multiplayer aspect of the game, so it would be no surprise to see another patch in the works. Glitches like Roadie Running while firing, RoadieJumping, and map hiding were still prevalent after the first major patch. It's possible that Epic has released this patch to stop some of these glitches, or even a larger problem of full game hacking.
In any event it is good to see that Epic has stepped up to the plate and with such speed. It is nice to see the game being patched so quickly after the initial update and we can only hope that they will continue to support the product with this type of speed in the future. 2old2play has sent out an email to Epic to try and see what fixes are included in this patch and will keep you posted.
Update: Mark Rein has finally comment on the new patch stating, "It is a minor compatibility update. No gameplay or functionality changes at this time."
