Today marks a great day for Microsoft and their XBox Live community, now growing to 6-million gamers. What makes this such an extremely important milestone?
At E3 Microsoft announced the goal of 6-million Xbox Live members by June 2007. Here we are, in early March, and the subscription rate hit 6-million.
We're guessing the 2006 holiday press to move Xbox 360 consoles has driven a great deal of those console gamers to subscribe to the relatively cheap service. Unlike an MMO such as World of Warcraft, gamers pay a small fee to game all year long - not limited to a single game.
To pay services work? Seems to be a success story considering the free service by Nintendo is a "get what you pay for" situation while the PlayStation 3's free network model is working out - but there are few games to play and the console circulation is still not great.
Now, if we can get the other consoles to see the progression of Xbox Live perhaps every console will be worth its weight in US dollar.
