Indie Game: The Movie
http://www.indiegamethemovie.com/
I'm going to a screening of this tonight with a friend of mine. There's supposed to be a Q&A with the filmmakers after the show but I'm not sure how long that will last. The screening we're going to sold out so they added a 9:30 show and I think that's going to seriously cut in to our Q&A time unless they have the 9:30 show in a different theater.
Epic Games & Red Storm are sponsors for tonight so maybe they'll have some swag to give out. Insomiac is in this area too but I don't see them listed as a sponsor.
Great movie. If you are at all interested in a little behind-the-scenes look at the creation of two independent games, give this movie a look if it comes to your town or once it hits DVD. It's a nice contrast with "Super Meat Boy" reaching it's goal and "Fez" continuing to hit serious snags and getting pushed back.
Tommy Refenes, one of the guys behind "Super Meat Boy" had a great line in the movie: "I wouldn't work for Epic or EA. That would be pure hell for me." The majority of the audience we were watching this with last night worked for Epic Games but they still gave that line a solid laugh. :)
The Q&A after the movie was supposed to just be with the filmmakers but since Tommy is from Asheville, NC he was at the theater and answered some questions. Seems he wasn't totally down on Epic. He does like the Unreal Engine, he just would hate working for them. :)
Tommy seemed to be pretty sour when it came to Microsoft but couldn't go in to many details. My wife used to work for Microsoft and said they have more NDAs than you could ever imagine. During the Q&A, he cited an instance he knew of where a guy had one of his games pulled from XBLA because of comments he made. Nobody's allowed to talk about the game, people involved, or circumstances yet but he said it'll might stir some shit when people are allowed to finally go public with the info.
Anyway, go check out the movie if you can. I think the filmmaker's goal is to push the tour through as many parts of the country as possible and get it out on DVD quickly so it shouldn't be a long wait.
