So one of the benefits of being part of the 2old2play staff is having our very own swanky 2old2play email address. When I say “swanky” I can’t even begin to describe the amount of swank. If swank was measured as speed my inbox would be near light speed and time would move slower just for me! Ok, so I guess I just did begin to describe it but really the stuff people send us sometimes is pretty cool!
That swank of our 2old2play inboxes are fueled by emails we get from PR reps, Developers, publishers, etc. about their new and “wonderful”, “amazing”, “ground breaking” games. Sadly I, nor the rest of your intrepid 2old2play crew, have the time to read, play or write about all of these titles.
The games we receive info about run the gamut from Indie to AAA and somewhere in between. The emails could pertain to new games, new add-ons or something else entirely and here is where we want you to play along! The news articles I will try to gather and post here but sometimes we are sent codes for early-access, beta requests or other versions of game trials. We will be posting the codes we can into the most relevant forum for you to use! These codes are usually one use only so first come first serve.
Just so we are clear, the age old adage of "there is no such thing as a free lunch" loosely applies here. You can take the code and run but what we really want is to hear back from you. How was the game overall? How did it play? What were the mechanics like? Most importantly did you have fun? A couple paragraphs would be nice and we may even throw a few up on the homepage! That being said, we want you to keep in mind that a lot of these are still works in progress and they want/ need is constructive feedback. A quick little list of do's and don'ts:
- Do: Celebrate the good
- Don't: Call the developers crab infested chicken f'ers because they didn't include a 4x3 mode for your broke ass tube style TV. In fact there is never a reason to call them crab infested chicken f'ers so just don't do it.
- Do: If you think a game sucks tell us why and what you think could have been done better.
- Don't: Go on ad nauseam about the lack of 1080p 60fps in a text adventure, card game, chess simulator.
- Do: Understand the development state the game is in when playing/critiquing.
- Don't: Grab a code for the latest 4x strategy game when you can't f'ing stand 4x strategy games.
- Do: Have fun!
Personally, I feel that while all the big publishers are focused on Multiplayer Adventure Battle Shooter and Card Game XXIX the Indie developers are creating the lion's share of original content. Some of it good, some great and some maybe not so much. Some of the games you may end up playing could have been created in someone's basement while their mom sent down mountain dew, pizza and bowls of ramen periodically. Who knows but that kind of passion is what will continue to drive the games industry and we hope the games you play will help drive the passion here at 2old2play!
