SRL - Sparrow Racing League - no really, in Destiny...
Starting Dec. 8th, Destiny will have Sparrow racing as a special playlist. Special rewards, gear, shaders, sparrows, blah, blah, blah... Looks like it might be fun. We have already been racing. Using the somewhat-round path around Venus. Lots of fun with a fireteam, but can be run for time. #3minVenus
Two video clips - to show the circuit we use (fwd and rev). Clockwise and Counter- [anti-] to test our sparrow skills. We have used a stopwatch to time ourselves solo-runs. We believe it can be done in less than three minutes, but have only come close, having some stupid rock or dumb root, snag us and screw-up our times. #3minVenus

How are they going to deal with different Sparrows? Some are faster than others.
Probably racing classes.

Did 5 races last night to finish the first part of the quest. It's only hear until the 29th and only 2 tracks. It can be fun, would be better with friends instead of just randoms. I've been seeing a lot of low level 200 people playing it. Light level doesn't matter so I was running with my Skolas mask on the last few races.

I agree with Soul - def more fun racing with 6 friends rather than a bunch of randoms. I should be online for a few races later tonight. If you guys have room for another racer shoot me an invite.
Achy, everyone uses the same Sparrow in the race. When you complete 5 races you get a new Sparrow which was an upgrade from my current one. Has 10 more speed. I had to buy my old one so wasn't the best you could get. Stupid data not transferring from PS4 to Xbox One >_<

#3minVenus - awesome sauce! - Reported times as low as 2:53, I've got as low as 2:58, so, three minutes can be beat.
Get to Venus and try for your best time!!!
The 160 Sparrows are all the same speed, though some of the SRL armor does offer sparrow perks as upgrades.
I used my 150 tricky/flames sparrow to get the trick bounty, it was noticeably slower and had shortened air-time on jumps.
I've been enjoying SRL. A fun, casual gametype with no pressure to really do anything except have fun. I don't really stress over winning and the rewards are pretty decent.
You can also use your Three of Coins each match for possible exotics.
I've reached Rank 3 with one of my characters and the drops are now between 310-320. I also farmed about six exotics over the weekend using my Three of Coins.

I freaking HATE sparrow racing. Can't progress in the quest because I'm basically incapable of a finish above 6th (if I finish at all) or completing a race without smashing my sparrow into a fan blade or off a cliff. Yes, I know about the brakes and side boosts.
Burned a bunch of Three of Coins too. Nuthin'.
On the bright side I did get the Pepto Bismol shader and a bunch of useless helmets. Whoo hoo.

I have never been a good racer. I am all throttle and no brakes. That being said, I can finish in the top 3 enough to finish the daily bounty. I wont tell you how many races it takes.
For me, I don't use the left stick for steering. I try to keep my thumb away from it as much as possible. I do use it occasionally if I want to boost left. On the two sharp turns on Venus, I will feather the throttle. Otherwise, I am balls to the wall and pray I don't crash.
Yes. And if the group had some time you could probably game the system by allowing each player to win a game then rotating that thru the group.
I would be up for helping people "win" races if needed.
I will say for some tips:
Make use of the race gear and unlock the perks. Get a helm that allows better control in the air because you want to spend more time on the ground than in the air after a jump (just be careful with the Mars jump). Use your side boosts wisely and do tricks to keep your boost meter full.
Speaking of tricks, make sure you use a trick sparrow. Using a non-trick sparrow will really hurt your times and control. I used my Tumbler until I got one of the new sparrows.
Finally don't stress about missing a gate, sometimes hitting a gate can put you in a worse spot so learn when to avoid - especially if in a pack.
Didn't know you could use any other Sparrows.
I initially thought that everyone would have the same "equipment" -- Sparrow and no special armor perks -- and the race would be won or lost on sheer ability. That would be the fairest way to do this. Not the case however as I found out. I guess they did that to keep all the Timmies interested thru the duration of the playlist, especially with only 2 maps. Nothing worse than coming into a race with nothing special equipped and getting laughed at by the tricksters. Sort of leaves a bad taste... I suppose I will continue on with this to see if I can level up enough to get a few good drops, but I would rather shoot things in the head.
I am only Level 2 and have received 4 or 5 armor drops in the 300 - 310 range. Four have been helmets, but they are good for infusing.
I won a pink sparrow, a Y2 Armamentarium and a 317 helmet!! - Some decent loot in the SRL.
You do not have to win to get the good loot. I've had nice stuff drop no matter the placement. In fact, I've started to see more and more people not even racing and still getting stuff at the end of the race. Apparently people just leave the character in MM, don't bother racing and collect the rewards.
Just get to Rank 3 and you are guaranteed drops from 310 - 320.
