Let's face it, any new FPS style title today which lacks online play is going to have an uphill battle with many fans, right?
So, would the makers of the Wii release an FPS-style game without an online mode when hit titles like Halo and Unreal Tournament have raised the bar?
A title like Oblivion has an excuse, its a huge single-player world with side quests and RPG elements to rise it to the top of the RPG genre. In many ways, most RPG's are single-player experiences.
But a first-person-shooter with only single player? On the N64 this would be totally acceptable, but we're not in the 90's anymore. There is this new thing called the Internet and "we would like to play."

No. It's something we talked about early on, but we only have so many resources. We opted to devote those resources to making a better single-player experience. That's right, in an interview with GamePro the question was raised "Will Metroid Prime 3 have any online modes?" and we've lost another franchise to single-player only.
