Interest in Private matches?
Interest in Private matches?
The launch of RoI in a few weeks will finally bring Private Matches to Destiny. I was wondering if people would be interested in playing some matches one night of the week. This is similar to what we've done for years with Halo as kind of a casual way for us to shoot each other in the face...lol
This is NOT meant to be a tryhard or competitive atmosphere, but more a way for us to get together and play some Crucible in a more controlled environment. Perhaps a way to try out weapons, subclasses, loadouts, etc.
I would be willing to try organizing things, at least initially, to see how it goes and if people have fun. I'm leaning toward either a Monday or Thursday night starting a little earlier around 8:00 PM Eastern and going for a couple of hours.
Any initial interest?
Interested. Especially if someone other than me is organizing it.
Interested.
Interested; will not able to start at 8 but will join later if there's room.
Might be able to make these sporadically, well after 8pm Eastern. Tuesdays are going to remain my dedicated weekday "game night."
Definitely worth a try!
At the conclusion of today's Destiny MLG livestream, it was announced that Private Matches are now LIVE!
I'm not sure if the new game mode, Supremacy, is also live, so we'll see tonight.
If we can get a group together to play then let's check it out. Once the dust settles with the RoI launch we can try to set up a more organized time to play.
On another note: people are reporting Dead Ghosts now showing up on the Crucible maps in Private matches. Perhaps we can do some ghost hunting tonight too.
Supremacy is not available yet.
Will play some private matches if we can get 6 or more together.
Big thumbs up on the private matches!
The whole chat thing work? No workarounds?
As soon as the game starts, the teams are placed into separate fireteam chats automatically, and at the end of each game everyone could hear each other in the lobby. Worked perfectly. No Xbox live party was used.
We did some ghost hunting last night and worked our way through about half the maps. We did eventually have to give in to our primal urges and shoot each other from time-to-time, but last night was mainly about finding ghosts.
Overall, the lobby system is very basic and easy to use. You can switch teams easily in the lobby or during a match. There was only 6 of us most of the evening, but we still had fun.
Perhaps we'll be able to finish the ghost hunting tonight.
Damn. Sorry I missed it. Played golf yesterday for first time since before hip surgery (2 months), celebrated the fact that I could, and immediately fell asleep in the recliner when I got home
Nicely done sir. Glad to hear you are able to get back out on the course.
Was fun last eve Darth! Thanks to you and everyone for coordinating it.
Some curious proceedings last night and some things I'd like for people to consider.
Please become familiar with the weapon sandbox in Destiny. I was surprised last night when we tried to do a Sidearms Only match that people some were confused about Sidearms (thus it didn't happen).
In similar regards, I'd like for people to bring at least one of each weapon type for us to switch things up. This includes, Primary, Special and Heavy. I had this cool vision of us playing Cowboy Clash with us all using The Last Word for funsies, but it quickly turned into Handcannons Only after waiting for people to search their vaults.
Another thing, is that I do NOT want these matches to become a proving grounds for tryhards. Yes, some of us are better at Crucible than others, but I want this to be fun. I enjoyed trying out different weapons and branching out from my normal Crucible loadouts. However, I hope this allows us all to get better in Crucible and perhaps lead to some trips to the Lighthouse (hey, a man can dream...right?).
Those of you that played, I would be interested to hear feedback even though this is mostly thrown together. Also, be thinking about some fun or creative games we can play.
We'll get things more in order once we've had some time to experiment with Private Matches and we need a break from trying to figure out the new Raid...lol
Definitely a lot of fun to be had in these matches. I guess one other item to remember is that when you join a group already in progress, that you may want to see if that group is doing anything special. We already started to do some special matches, like one type of gun only, but I can see us playing a little cat/mouse, battleship, infected, etc as time goes on. Since XBox doesn't allow us to make fireteams private, it could be a problem. The one solution I've seen mentioned to prevent this is going offline while playing.
If private matches are popular, you won't need to be offline. The fireteams will be full. That's what happened with Halo.
i am still in for anything and going offline would work but i think that might be a bad thing too
Yeah, I wouldn't be in favor of going offline. Part of the reason for doing this is to allow casual fun and if folks can't find us it would be a bummer (not to mention a headache to coordinate as people sign-on).
Perhaps we'll just have to train folks to make sure they bring all of their toys and subclasses to customs night. Also to ask questions first and shoot later...lol
yea once we all know the rules it be easy to play
I thought I would revive this thread from the dead.
Is anyone interested in starting a private match game night? Before RoI was released we had a couple of impromptu private match nights and they were a lot of fun. Is anyone still interested? Would you be interested if we had an organized night for them? Say Thursday’s starting at 8pm eastern with people jumping in and out whenever? Thoughts?
As noted in an earlier post, these would be casual matches, meant for people of varying skill levels just to have fun playing with friends, nothing sweaty or serious.
