Tetris Splash is the newest iteration of one of the most popular puzzle games of all time. That being said, Tetris Splash is…well…Tetris.
The history of the Tetris series and puzzle games go hand in hand. Tetris is one of the all time biggest sellers when it comes to the puzzle game genre. So whenever a new Tetris game comes out many gamers immediately go and pick it up so they can relive their childhood.
This is great for the series, but the fact remains that no matter how many faces they put on the game, it’s still the same game as it was all those years ago when on the NES.
This version seems to be the “lite” version of the full retail titles. With the concept of underwater scenery, Tetris Splash gives you all of the classic Tetris gameplay with a serene setting. Unlike previous titles, there aren’t as many distracting backgrounds and exploding graphics when lines are cleared.
The only evident new feature found when playing the game was the ability to place puzzle pieces in a “queue” to be used later. This can come in extremely handy as players are able to place certain pieces in the queue to use when they need that one special piece to knock down some lines.
There is some talk about the ability to earn new fish to add to your aquarium; however the cartoon-style background was just not anything to write home about. There is the ability to customize your “fish” in the aquarium and use it as a screensaver, though most wouldn’t find this feature as groundbreaking in the least.
So if you love Tetris and don’t already own another version of the game, this one may be a bargain by purchasing it on the Xbox Live marketplace….but don’t expect anything different than the Tetris you already know and love.
My advice - download the demo and don't waste the MS points unless you REALLY love the game...
