XNA Games for Everyone

It appears that Microsoft is finally softening to a major hole in their console strategy, the lack of support for user generated content. Halo 3 and Forza tinkered with the support of limited user generated content but today at GDC one of the floodgates has been opened.

Starting today, the games generated by the XNA Creators Club will be available to the 10 million plus Xbox Live members through the 'Xbox Live Community Games' area. The games will be 'democratized' by the community who will rank and review them as sort of a community filter to weed out the crap from the truly awesome.

Each developer will submit their game along with a description which will include things like the violence level and the type of game this download is. Then Xbox Live members can download the game and give it a rating.

That's not all though, some of these games will run on the Zune allowing you to take them with you. Some games can transfer between Windows, Zune and the Xbox 360 so you can continue gaming between home, your commute and your office computer (gaming on your Lunch break of course).

With this new announcement it appears that the Bill Gates vision of Live Anywhere takes another step forward. It also looks like the road to total user generated content support has gotten a bit longer as well. We look forward to seeing how more of the Xbox Live Community unfolds as it's released to the masses later today.
