Room of Doom is not the kind of game you would like if you enjoy MLG type games or something set up for more serious gamers. Instead, Room of Doom is a game for the carnage seeking sadist in all of us. This gametype is basically set up to be king of the hill with a non-moving hill and the only weapon on the map is rockets. It gets its name from the fact that I like to play it on Backwash, where the hill is stuck in the center room with the column in the middle of it. I suppose it could be played on Foundation but I have not really given it a try.
Most Room of Doom games last about 8 minutes with a hill win time set to 2 minutes. You rarely last long on the hill because of the weapons and the hill location. I have tracked the kills in the game and compared them to the game length. A typical RoD game averages a death every 2.7 seconds. Depending on the number of players, I have seen total kills in the neighborhood of 200-300 for an 8 minute game. I always have a blast playing it even though there is always concern about lag and other issues. It has inspired me to create a similar game where two teams face off on a tight map with only rockets and the match has an 8 minute time limit, most kills wins.
On a different topic, I am both looking forward to and dreading the upcoming OMM in-clan tourney. On one hand, I have a competitive spirit in me and want to see how our team does against other teams in the clan. The flipside is that I am concerned how this could create friction among us. Sure, bragging rights will be involved but I hope this does not become an exclusivity group where a winning team tends to hang out together and excludes other people from joining them. I’m also concerned with how some of us lesser skilled players will end up faring. We all get curious about who is the best at something or is the worst at something (DanLeCrinque = Tank Whore) but as long as we remember that it should be a fun experience for all involved, things will not get out of hand. For those who care, if we were playing multiplayer as if we were a real army, I would much prefer to be on the tactical side of things as planning is my best suit.
