A while ago I was kicking around the site chatroom (always a good time) when the topic of the upcoming Street Fighter II Turbo game for LIVE Arcade came up. Of course the discussion degenerated into some good-natured smack talking (common in the chat room) on who would destroy who when it was released.

Not one to back down from a challenge, I stated that I was pretty sure Id clean up against them. Now I was a pretty good Street Fighter player back in the arcades circa 1992, but the real reason for the confidence was standing right next to me in the form of a 25 inch dedicated SFII Hyper Fighting arcade machine.

I bought the machine for $240 at an arcade auction in Indianapolis in 1999, which was probably less than the total amount of quarters Ive plugged into the damn things during my mispent youth. I still look at it sometimes & cant believe I actually own one (of course the wife does the same for different reasons).

If youre interested at grabbing a machine of your own, there are quite a few companies that sell them (I got mine from the first link). The most important things you need are cash (they rarely take checks or credit cards) & an extension cord (so you can play the games to make sure they work well before bidding). As far as a fans view of an auction, check out this page, with bid histories & pictures. Now that Ive essentially let the cat out of the bag to the whole site, I better start practicing so I dont get embarassed if Capcom ever releases it...

25"??  You mean monitor?  Because thats a generic Dynamo cabinet.  Many games used it, including my Double Dragon II and SFIICE.  It uses a 19" monitor.  Probably one of the most popular mass production cabinets, ever.  Real easy to find replacement parts. Also for others reading this, if oyu want to get your own those auction sites are great.  Also check out the newsgroup rec.games.video.arcade.collecting.  You can also check out the B/S/T amd Arcade Misc forums at BYOAC.com.  The other thing to try, which is how I got my Double Dragon II, is talk to local vendors.  See if they have nearly working machines taking up space in storage.  My Double Dragon II was completely working except it didnt have a monitor.  The guy was nice and gave it to me for free if I removed it from storage on my own.The monitor mount was broken.  Thats just a piece of plywood that needs to be cut correctly.  Video games after 1984 use a standard called JAMMA (or in the case of SFIII JAMMA+).  The monitors are standard, all you need to do is find a standard resolution JAMMA arcade monitor.  You can get new ones from places like happcontrols.com or watch ebay.Im currently restoring an Asteroids I got for free.  Those are a bit tougher with the vector monitor as those havent been made in like 20 years.  Theres a mailing list called vectorlist.org thats great for learning how to fix old vector games. If it was a popular game don;t worry if the artwork isnt perfect, theres reproductions out there.  twobits.com is the official namco (pacman, galaga) reproduction place.  Unfortunately my Double Dragon II is tough to find replacement art for :(  I just need to find the white CPO and side art.  I have the original bezel which was perfect and a replaced marquee.

Hey Poonga, good stuff.  Youre right, I think its a Dynamo (though its a 25 moniter) however my understanding was they made a lot of the original cabinets for Capsom & a whole lot of other companies.  I guess my definition of dedicated is original bezel, marquee, & control panel (though clearly my buttons have been replaced) vs. something like this:The side are is tough though, I feel for you there.  I took mine off as it was really faded due the sunlight through the windows & Im not sure Ill find another set.  So you have a standard SFII Champ edition?  Well have to get online whenever it comes out on LIVE arcade.  Since you sounds like you know a lot more than me, Ive been thinking of converting the machine to a CPS II Jamma so I could pick up/swap out Super Street Fighter & the Alpha series--how much re-wiring would that take?

If you want to find out more about wiring a cabinet check out wiki.arcadecontrols.com and the arcadecontrols.com forum.I have a Double Dragon II in its original Dynamo cabinet.  Not much of a fighter fan.  The hardest part is finding replacement artwork.  My Double Dragon II is especially hard, theres two different control panel arts and I have the really rare one.
