Paddles / H-Shifter / Sequential Shifter - AAAAHHH! what should I use?

So I've only recently picked up a racing wheel and now I'm confounded with some of my choices available.

I've been reading and researching and can't find a diffenitive answer....maybe there isn't one :D

What should I be using.  Paddle Shifting, Clutch Pedal / H-Shifter, Sequential Shifting (not avialable using my H-Shifter on the G27 unless I use a little mod).  Is there a different between paddle shifting and using the stick for sequential shifting or are they basically the same thing?

I suspect paddle shifting is easier (it seems to be - really never miss a gear) but I assume it also has draw backs...or maybe not.  Maybe H-Shifter is just more fun :) and really doesn't have an advantage.

As a total noob I know I have a lot more things to worry about (proper braking, line/apex etc.) but I'm curious as to what you use and why.  Some people seem to prefer one over the other and some people just seem to use "whatever that car really uses" to keep it "real".

Thanks for any help.  p.s. I tried using the search on the new v3 but I never get any results back no matter what I search lol.

if you're usin a clutch, h/sequential shifter, as the hands/paddles usually are faster than the feet.

I use the paddle shifters with no clutch the majority of the time.  Autoclutch is a must.  I have never used the sequential, although I might try it out, since I have one sitting on my shelf collecting dust.  I use the H shifter with clutch occasionally, but its mostly just for immersion and fun, since its definitely slower than the paddle shifters.  The H shifter is fun for A class and lower cars in Forza, particularly muscle cars and smaller European cars.  I also like to use the H shifter and clutch for the historx mod for rFactor.  I tried using the H shifter in GT5, but I was getting too many mis-shifts.

I started with Paddle, but didn't have ALC at the time and when damage was set to on I found I was cooking my clutch...alot. So I invested in shifters, that not only solved the problem but was far more enjoyable. I use the seqencial as the Fanatec H gate is a little cheap and nasty to be honest. I now have ALC but am only going to use it in cars that are fitted with them in real life. I see Fanatec are working on an all metal H shifter so I may invest in that down the line.

I havn't found the sequencial any slower than the paddles now I am used to it, in fact maybe it has helped me get a little faster.

I try to be period correct. If the cars are old and would no way have had paddles I use the H-shifter. I only race these in relaxed series (like the retro series Snappy has going on) so I don't care if I am slower. I am doing it for fun. When competing (STCC or rFactor V8's at the moment) I usually use the paddles even if they would have sequential shifters in real life. I never tried my sequential shifter but been meaning to...just lazy to swap it out.

Currently Playing:

A-F class - H shifter with foot operated clutch for the "full immersion" experience; all assists off

S-X class - paddle shifter, auto clutch and traction control enabled

I know the H shifter and foot clutch is slower than paddles and A button for clutch but it just doesn't feel right now to push a button for the clutch  smileysmiley
