I guess we'd all like to switch to real, then? I'm fine with it?

Does it affect the track with rain?

Im not saying we need to switch but rather explaining what we saw in todays race.  Looking back, it might have been a good thing in this instance as not everyone had we tires or intermediates.

Church - in todays race, most of us ran on RH tires well into the race and running decent times up until around 60% when the pit window opened.  I finished the race on IM's and was still in solid control of the car even at 100%.

So in theory anything other than real is essentially a built in aid like tc or STM  for weather ?

Iam all for real settings if that's the case !

I noticed you had penalties off....what do they do if on?  Track cutting warnings and blue flags for back lappers ? , my piss poor driving and off roading were never punished

Penalty ON - cuts power when you go off track and makes you semi-transparent/ghosted for a brief period of time

While the race was LOTS of fun, I was surprised at the difference between race-hard and race-wet tires. By the time I pitted (lap-13) the track was about 70% wet and, although I wasn't struggling too bad with the handling, my lap times had dropped off considerably, which makes sense. I switched to race-wet tires because I had to - I forgot to purchase intermediates! Right off of pit lane I knew that I was in trouble - my lap times on the wet tires were considerably slower than when I had the race-hard tires. At one point I actually thought about pitting again to go back to the hard tires, but by that point the track was over 90% wet and I saw a couple of people have slide-offs.

Opening up the door to different tire compounds is an interesting idea. I wonder if the difference between softs and hards would cause someone to try a 2-stop strategy?

Man, this series seems to be going Hardcore quickly. LOL

im leaning towards the "Real" setting. as far as the Penalty setting, well...we may as well try it on one race. It's up to you guys. I have no problem running that way.

Also, the series is now open to ANY Race Tire, you may also want to hold onto those wet tires as well.

I will update the OP as soon as its decided.

I never use it. Besides, that issue is taboo around these parts. You're gonna stir lots of talk with that suggestion. LOL

:) I would never push for that in someone else's series.  I don't know why some take to it so badly?  I don't care or judge who uses what as long as were having fun and getting the most out of your driving experience!

I wish it was just a "Brake Line"  like in Forza 4.  The race line/ brake line, helps when I have a few beers.

I'm annoyed now. It appears that the Roadster races are too long for the Replay to be saved. I was hoping to score a capture card and post videos. Maybe for the next series.

I Planned on doing something similiar. Maybe have to take that into account when figuring amount of laps ran per race. Or if there is enough interest and close to full lobby I would rather spectate and broadcast live like I do in FM4.

That sounds about right Grimm...I remember seeing it on Sunday but not the previous Sunday when the race was around the 40 minute mark.

Snappy, first off let me thank you for allowing us to use your series to weed out the options available to us and how we will set them up for future series. Someone had to be the guinea pig right? I’m 100% positive with opening up all dry race compounds plus using the real grip setting will introduce awesome race strategies for sure. Below are some Parcells thought’s on a couple other less critical settings you may wish to consider…

1) Mechanical damage – Little harm in testing out and I really like how PD has set this one up. With a light damage setting your car can take on damage for whatever reason (usually hitting something) at which point you’ll see what car part took damage (appears red on car icon on lower left of screen) and you will suffer something be it speed (engine damage) or handling (wheel damage) but the beauty of this is your car automatically repairs itself over time. On the light setting the longest I’ve ever seen is maybe 10-15 seconds where your car suffers then is back to normal. Pretty sure the heavy setting is the same (eventually will repair itself over time) just takes longer to fix itself. Only reason I noticed this is last week I severely missed my braking point and smashed into the turn one wall where my car should have taken damage but the only thing I suffered was the embarrassment of having Grimm pass me while I tried to pull my car away from the wall.

  1. 2) Penalties – I’ve always used NO penalties throughout the life if GT5 and on Thursday nights I will most likely stick with it but I’m kind of thinking it might work better for an endurance race vs. the 10-12 minute races we run on Thursdays. Allow me to explain…the system is pretty darn good (albeit with some minor flaws which might just be my inaccurate interpretation) as it penalizes you for cutting corners OR smashing into another car. You’re penalized by having your car being taken over by the game where it will drive it down the road but at a very slow speed until your penalty is up…the more critical your mistake the longer the penalty (cutting just a bit might give you a 5 second penalty whereas a huge corner cut can be up to 20 seconds). Generally speaking as long as you have 2 wheels on the track you’re fine but the entire car off the track usually results in a penalty. Furthermore if you accidentally go wide you aren’t necessarily penalized as you aren’t gaining anything running wide off the track but if you’re able to keep the gas pedal down (you wont be able to with the REAL grip setting J) and do gain an advantage it’ll probably catch you and penalize you.

There’s two reasons why I don’t use it on Thursdays. One is I don’t necessarily trust the game in penalizing someone when two cars collide…I seem to recall getting penalized for getting hit from behind once? Really? But the bigger issue for me is the damn ghosting of cars which happens to you when you receive a penalty. The concept is a good one but can it ever mess you up when the car you’re following all of a sudden starts to ghost. It can be confusing when a lot of cars are around you and more than one are taking penalties trying to figure out who you can drive through and who you cannot and lets be honest here cars do not ghosts in real life so what’s up with that anyway? Point being it’s confusing when lots of cars are around a-la Thursday nights but an endurance race we’re spread out more allowing the corner cutting penalties to be more effective.

I’m so happy to be using the real grip setting now the above settings are mostly irrelevant but I will say the mechanical damage setting can be tested with zero risks of it pissing people off but cannot say the same about the penalty settings beyond the concept is a good one but implementation is a tad suspect. I've been told (not sure if true or not) that "visible damage" set to anything other than none introduces lag but this setting is separate from the mechanical damage setting.

Your standard, perhaps long winded, feedback for you to digest.

If you're participating in this series you may have noticed that there is no Race scheduled for Sunday, January 26th. That's because I purposely scheduled a break in there. However, I have a special event planned for that week which I thought could slow things down and make for some fun. There will be no points and no pressure so racers can participate if they like or they can skip it all together because I know it may not be for everyone. Here's what I have planned:

1965 Mini versus the 60's Fiat 500 L at the Brands Hatch Indy Curcuit. 15 laps at just over a minute each. I am still in the testing phase but plan on having the tunes posted by tomorrow. The cars are very different from the Mazda Roadster.  Again, it's not mandatory but the more the merrier with these cars. Assassin and I did a few laps together the other day and it was a real hoot. Check back tomorrow for the tunes.

Guys, the weather is NOT going to be a factor for the Daytona race. Only time progression from day to night. It's just too much. Daytona is a tough track. Should be plenty challenging and lots of fun.

I'm going with the number 77 and my car is painted Sakhir Orange with GT Japanese 010-W (bronze?) wheels. Man I'm looking forward to this, after spending some time with GT6 I like it better than FM5. Nobody plays it (MP rooms) and get bored after spending hours in Rivals. Dont even get me started on single player, you mother%&:@#[<µ \£€¶@&$#%....sorry.

Question about the weather in General when we set it to change multiple times and track % at start if set to anything more than 0 would the CPU not read that as a wet race even if it's not rain to start?
