Forza one group Halo lots...why?

So not just Halo but other games too...So why, what makes us as Race game enthusiasts different? how come we have happily grown, taken in more members and never split into sub groups. Or more to the point why have other genres gone that route?

Racing is one versus everybody, on the track. FPS is team-centric. More, smaller groups for a tighter team in FPS. One large group for greater chances of finding a game in the racing genre.

Well yes and no we have race teams too, and it's not a matter of finding races we organize race series that go on for weeks, and as one ends another takes it place...but yes it must have something to do with the very different game play. Finding a random race is as easy as going on line and entering a lobby or putting out a call to the in game club. But it's the organized series that are our real strength.

And that is why your not in a shooting team laugh

Although when I used to play Counter Strike 1.3 - 1.6 and CSS I used to find I was always in a group of just 5 - 6 members.

Don't know why though, although we all used to hate each other of the game but was best buddies on it?

Its a great point, and it spawns from the history lesson that I gave in the other post about 2o2p.  When I first started, 2o2p was built for all things Halo.  I never built it with the intention of housing more then one clan.  As time went on, we decided to have tournaments and other events set up to have more fun with Halo.  This meant that teams needed their own place to talk strategies and ideas without others looking in.  Again, there was never supposed to be private hidden areas on 2o2p.

Well as time went on, these tournaments grew and new people that arrived to 2o2p saw that teams were not easy to get on.  To add to this, even newer clans didn't like tournaments at all and found they much preferred the casual non-compeditive side to Halo.  This fed into even more clans and more private areas until you have what you see today.  So it's not really out of any specific reason, it's just how the flow of things happened because of the way the site was structured.

We didn't have subforums back then and really had no way to section of areas other than forums.  Basically its my main regret of V2.  The day we split the forums was probably the biggest mistake I have made since creating the site.

Ah that explains it right enough, thanks I was genuinely curious. We have that same 100 limit for the car clubs in forza as well, but we don't have that secret tactic, thing and that more than anything explains why we need only one group and why FPS clans need to be able to be...well secretive, it is a function of the different genres.

I don't think you should view it as a mistake, it was something that worked big time for us, but had some undesirable consequences you could not have predicted. But there is the drive to find a solution and given time the site will be better for it.

Perhaps it's a throwback to the old days of clan support on the XBOX. You could only have 100 people in an XBOX clan. I think this website started with a few of those clans needing a home. This is where my clan (2old2pwn) started. Back then we were a Halo only clan and to this day we choose to keep the count near 100. Our philosophy is, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. =)

So why not have one clan for all halo players? People would find like minded players casual / competitive or whatever, but we would all still be connected in one forum. This is how the Forza clan works, there aren't 17 different clans based on the type of driver/car/tune/track preferences.

I realize this is an unrealistic suggestion, but more of a thought experiment.

This would probably work if this is the way it started out. Like the Forza group they have teams within the group and organize events. A Halo group could work the same way. When you join the site visit a group forum for the game you like, join some events meet some friends maybe join a smaller team with in the group for team events. Everything under one roof makes alot of sense.

I thought the same, each game with a large following having one forum with sub forums dedicated to groups whithin that . we have sub forums for Tuning, Painting, Race series and a few other things. The Tuners even have their own in game club. Not sure if that can be done at this late stage.

The answer is actually pretty simple, The awesomness of Halo is too great to be contained to just one group. Oh, and also what Wam said.
