It's the only big city I have ever lived near. (I'm in the south suburbs, an hour train ride into downtown) I can't say enough great things about this place. I like good ethnic food, beer, and finding interesting places
Stuff in the city...
Magnificent mile, A great place to windowshop and people watch. It's full of shops selling high end merchendise and the people who buy it
The signature room on the 95th floor of the John Hancock building. Great view of the city,(the best view of all is from the womens restroom, The wife tells me the entire wall is glass) amazing food, but expensive.
Street performers, Silver statueguy, bucket boy bands, streetcorner evangelists, prophets of doom and other interesting people.
Greek town. Even better food, and cheaper. Walgreens signs in english and greek
China town. Everything you expect from a place called Chinatown.
German town Great Beer, Great Beer, Great Beer, Great Schnitzel
Irish pubs, some are really good and feel authentic, others serve pizza puffs.
Pizzeria Uno/Due Arguably the best in the world (flame on) They are the originators of deep dish Chicago style pizza and in a city full of great pizza, it's the best I've ever had!
museum campus, If you like museums (I do) check out the Shedd Aquarium, Adler Planetarium, The Field Museum of Natural History, land, air, and sea all in one area.
Navy pier, Restaurants, shops, botanical garden, a huge ferris wheel, carousel
Chicago style hotdogs, Italian beef, More great food, hope you're hungry
Millenium park, the bean, the interactive fountains. Over budget and behind schedule, and well worth it. This is a great place to bring kids and adults who think they are kids.
Lincoln Park Zoo One of the last free zoos in the country
Blue Man Group at the Briar street theatre. What a freaky show, I loved it!
Google any of this stuff to learn more and see pictures(I'm too lazy to do it)
That's all I can think of for now, and I haven't scratched the surface. Hopefully I have all my facts straight on this stuff. If you are thinking of coming to the convention, give yourself a chance to check out the town while you are here.
If I think of more to add later, I will.
One more thing... If you think you live in a great city, tell me about it, I'm always looking for someplace new to visit.
