Trails can range from a few miles or over 10. The purpose? get to the cooler of beer at the end of the trail. It has its own language, "on-on" means someone has picked up the trail. Real names, called "Nerd names" are forbidden, hash names are used instead, usually something obscene. at the end, everyone circles up, drinks beer, eats and talks, obscenities fly and everyone has a good time.
Haven't gone on one yet, but it sounds fun.
Here is the website, look for a group (called a kennel) near you.
