Shared on Sat, 08/04/2007 - 20:11As you may be able to tell I'm a little stoked about Ace Combat 6 and the fact that its jumping consoles. It was my favorite game for the PS2 and I'm happy that it is stalking my ass over to the 360. It is by far the most enjoyable game of it's genre, ar none. All of the other attempts at making a dogfighting flight sim were far too simplified to be anything other than cheap arcade games. But, with Ace Combat's fairly realistic flight control scheme (considering it's designed around a controller) allows you to eplore ALL of the potential combat moves with the posible exception of a hammerhead stall for a vertical reversal.
I am by no means a pilot or no-it-all for dogfighting. I have about 20 hours of stick time that was going towards my private pilots licen when I was in my teens. I soloed and had started working on my post-solo flight lessons leading to cross-country flights when I ran out of money. After that, life happened and other priorities have prevented me from achieving that particular goal of mine.
One day though, I will have my pilot's license.
Until then, I will have to make myself happy with sims. When it comes to sims however I could never get into the M$ series of Flight Sims. While they were designed around instructional flight sims to teach basic aeronautics, they were boring. Without a real destination, flying in a straight line is boring as shit. So, combat flight sims are the way to go.
The most exciting thing for me about the new Ace Combat variant is the online multi-player. I'm hoping that there wil also be a multi-player mission co-op but I won't hold my breath. I would love it if they made the mission combat load-outs more realistic and made a mission profile requiring a fairly large amount of mult-player interaction. Throw in some aerial refueling and such and I would be a contented man.
Tally-Ho.
