No, I am not dead

Sorry for the hiatus from this site. I'd like to say that I've been overseas and without the internet doing important things.

But, that would be a huge lie. I've been working my ass off and then lazying around the house playing video games and wishing I was playing some that aren't out yet.

I seem to recall I was doing a Bill of Rights blog walk. I'll get back to it.

My little quiet town I intentionally moved to to get away from a large metro area has grown. It has grown a LOT. With that growth has come a lot of people and a lot of activity. Not much by ratio mind you, if I've learned anything its that no matter where you live, people are the same. All people are prone to make mistakes, most of really no consequence, some however can be very severe.

What has compounded our problems however is rapid development in only one area, real estate. They keep building more boxes to cram people into so that they can work and pay taxes. Other than that they aren't developing much in the way of diversion. The old adage, "Idle hands do the Devil's work" can be truly applied to our area. There is only one thing to do around here, go to a bar and drink alcohol.

For those with no creativity and a limited ability to reason past the next fuck-up I'm sure you have no problem with that. But, if you are creative and are looking for some variety in your off-time you will be severely bored here. Our city commisioners are okay with this apparently as the taxes probably look really good and as long as the numbers in their heads keep going the way they like they see no reason to make changes. But, they aren't the ones having to deal with the inevitable consequences of a growing population with a mean age of 25 that is drinking a LOT of booze.

People need things to do, give them variety and a lot of them will take advantage of it. Sure, there are always those that will always choose alcohol and clubbing as their only form of entertainment (for whatever moronic reason) but to provide the other groups with nothing but this lowest common denominator fare of diversion is stupid.

This saddens me. There was a real potential for growth and long term stability here. It's all being fettered away by the xenophobic mistrust of people "not born here" and the short sighted greed of those willing to make as much off of people as possible while doing as little for them in return as possible.

I technically have 12 years from full retirement. I don't think I'll make it. Unless something drastic changes my current plan is to wait until my daughter is finished with college and then run with whatever meager retirement I can supplement my next great adventure with (you know, new job with less people to have to deal with). Twnety years of this shit is getting to be damn well enough.

I wonder if the Air Force still runs those weather stations in the arctic? I hear there aren't many people around there.
