Sorry bout that. Here's an update of my gaming life. I built a fairly powerful gaming PC and my life hasn't quite been the same.
I kid you not, I spent just south of $900... just to play Fallout...
... I'm just gonna let that sink in a bit....
Yup, it's as bad as it sounds. Now, admittedly I was looking for something else to build other than guns for a hobby. I've built several Ar15 rifles. Not just for me but others as well and it got boring. I can put one together now in about 30 minutes. That's from a "bag-o-parts" to complete rifle... everything torqued correctly and function tested. So, I needed something else that I had little experience with. So, I decided to build a computer.
I'm not a complete newb when it comes to the interior of a PC. I was born and raised in the very virgin era of home PCs. Had a Commodore 64, cut my teeth on Basic (don't remember a fucking thing either), was in the first generation of school kids that had computer rooms (Apple 2e, Oh how I knew thee...). My first gaming outside of an arcade was of course on a PC. While I also had the original Pong and an Atari 2600 plus the many iterations of the Nintendo system, I always preferred PC games. My gamer tag is actually based on my character name I made up for Star Wars X-Wing Fighter and the Tie-Fighter series (I think that was on an IBM 386??).
But, fell out of gaming in college, way too much ... "studying" to do and the ensuing hang-overs.
Got back in with the PS One system and my first console game for it was Metal Gear Solid.
Now, if Simon will set Mr. Peabody's "WayBack" machine I'm in the not so distant past playing Fallout New Vegas on the Xbox. I beat it legit at least four or five times and was bored with having fun with it.
I had always been aware of the PC version of several games I was playing, Fallout (3 and NV), Borderlands, etc... and noticing how much MORE fun they looked due to the better graphics and textures and of course.. ALL OF THE MODS!!!!
So, I decided that before Fallout 4 came out I would have a good gaming PC on which to play it. So logged onto NewEgg and about three months and $900 later, I can has PC. Got a copy of FNV for PC, logged onto Steam and BANG...
Started playing Fallout New Vegas on it wholesale. Started Modding the CRAP out of it with all of the mistakes that happen. Then I started learning how to correctly incorporate mods into a game correctly. (Thanks go to Gophervids on Youtube).
It isn't even the same game. Seriously, if you haven't played it on a decked out PC at max settings with the improvements to gameplay that Mods can bring to it then you haven't really played it yet.
Then came Star Wars:The Old Republic. that's fantastic (play a LOT with my brother). And now of course I am now addicted with no shame to ESO V: Skyrim....
...Oh MY GAWDDD!!!! All I can do is feel sorry for anybody playing it on either of the consoles. Must really suck to be limited to less than 2 gig for rendering and gameplay. Of course there's a 4 gig fix for PC gamers (Troll).
It is without reservation the most beautiful game I have ever played. When my wife comes in to watch she has to remind herself she's looking at a game. And that's before the environmental mods.
As a result my Xbox Live friends have been sending me nasty letters and text messages. I go in and play every now and then because I do still enjoy console gaming but, I can't stay there. Not while I have a machine that has a graphics card that is more powerful than either of my consoles. I'm not kidding either. There are graphics card much more powerful than the one I'm using and mine still kicks the crap out of the Xbox or PS3. I haven't even Sli'd two of them together yet. .... Sorry, I just drooled a little.
So, as a result I'm a PC convert (my brother couldn't me more pleased with himself either). I'll still play on the consoles every now and then but for REAL gaming, it's PC or nothing.
