And The Job Hunt Begins

Well, after almost five years at my company we decided to "fail" to live up to my expectations. We were bought for a very low amount of cash, which in the end, means the stock buy-out breaks me even (if I had jumped to a better salary at another job or stayed where I was). After receiving one pay increase (although slight) in four years and being 'hired on' at the new company with absolutely no incentive to stay, I think it's time to move on.

I posted my resume last night and I've received four recruiter messages so far, granted most are for areas of the country I don't want to move (no matter how many times I put that on my profile). So, after 8-hours and getting four contacts I'm feeling pretty good about maybe finding a job in the near future.

The big problem, for me, is that I don't really know what I want to "do" in the world of development. Although I'd rather work for myself or do full on web-contract jobs it just won't pay the bills (read: insurance for a family). So that's out for a bit.

The end result is probably going to be a decrease in news posts (from me anyway) while I a) try to figure out what I'm going to do b) try to get over being absolutely pissed that the company I worked for for this long is fucking me over.

I'm going to start by hitting up friends companies, maybe get people some recruiting bonuses if they hired me on rather than going through their websites. Such a time sink, job seeking, but a requirement to get the fuck out of dodge.

Definately hit up your friends for information. Not only can you get candid information about the company, you'll get your foot in the door much, much faster....

Good luck CM times are different now the company you work for could care less about their employees. Yet employees have anxiety over asking for time off or calling in sick. Every place I have ever worked it seemed that I was just a number. On a positive note every place I left or was laid off from always turned into something better. So good luck to you and stay positive.

So far I've gotten about 12 to 13 recruiters shooting me off jobs, that's not too bad for a few hours of posting my resume. I like selection, means I can play them off each other rather than being desperate.
