And this is why I never became an artist

Its on my wall as a constant reminder.  What happened?  When I was 16 (or so) I was heavily into D&D.  I saw this image in one of the monsterous compendiums (its a divider image from 2nd edition, and was in a book or two).  I decided to "make my own" version of it, only about 2 times larger and all by eye in graphite pencil.  I only worked on it during my free time at school (when not wasiting it gaming in D&D or SNES).  I left it on my writing desk, and worked on it for roughly six months (lots of scales and gold).  Sometime later some assclown spilled coke on it, and never told me and the soda sat there festering for days before I noticed it.  Ive not drawn anything serious since then (except when a family member or friend needed something).

I think its some childhood trauma, probably somehow goes back to my mom or something.  Ya know how those people always try to blame it on the mother, screw them! I saw Sopranos! I know the truth!

Wow, rock on. plasticrhyme, sorry to hear about your uprooting, I had similar issues from 1st to 6th grade, then it ironed out and I was in the same school system to the end (until college of course). I still doodle and such, but with life being hectic, and many new hobbies its hard to go back and draw. Id love to give it a try again, its a talent my father had and somehow past on to me. I just dont think I could ever do it for work (maybe graphic arts or something)

I got turned down for art school :(. I wont get into details about that, but here I am, a techie with aspirations of being a web designer. I doodled a lot in class up, specially in HS. Thats a great drawing, code, you shouldnt have stopped doing it. I agree with doorgunnerjgs. Maybe if you spill coke on all of it, give it a an aged sephia look, lol.

That is really good! Copied or not. Actually with techniques today, it could be salvaged and be awesome. Using other colors to complement the Coke to fill in the entire background and then using opaque colors on the dragon, it would be awesome! Sorry you gave all up when you really appear to have a talent!

I feel your pain on this one. I was raised in Philly and was all ready to go to the Philly school of arts. I had my portfolio ready and had my senior year all setup to have nothing but music and art. I was really into drawing and design, everything from murals to pencil drawings. I was raised in PA all my life and it was the only life I knew (urban life). Then my family had dropped the bomb on me, just before my senior year would start they decided to move to Lutz FL, which at the time was nothing but a country hick town. Florida school system was so screwed up they had less periods and I was forced to take required classes for the state like Economics. Needless to say severly depressed, culture shocked, and not being able to fit any art or music into my new senior schedule it soon became a thing of the past. I also look at times at the stuff I used to do but for some reason never got back into it, I doodle all the time still, guess some habits never die. I will now be 30 here on Sept 11 (yea I know of all days) and I believe in some ways I still carry the pain of being uprooted that way. Funny enough I also found my way to the logic world of software engineering LOL, funny how similar the paths of different people can be. Didnt , mean to dump so much in a comment, what can I say you struck a nerve...
