Shared on Mon, 09/24/2007 - 18:43For those of you that may have seen Drosts awesome review on digg and decided to comment, you may have noticed it's "not cool" on social networking communites to leave comments pimping a site... even if it's the source of the material.
In other words, if you want to support 2old2play on sites like DIGG -- digg the article and leave comments about said article (or no comment at all), not the site in general. This may be okay on some public forums, but in the world of social networking and techy news aggrigators it's kinda a "no no" to talk about your own site while on someone else's. Think of it much like if someone came to our forum and started talking about THEIR site instead of the experiences their having at our little neck of the woods.
We had some experiences yesterday where a rash of folks left "2old2play is so awesome" or "I love 2old2play" and all that and it makes our articles look like they were made popular strictly by our users, which isn't true at all (it takes more than a few of our diggs to hit the homepage). Other digg users see that type of comment and bury the article because they assume that "we made it popular."
This behavior is typical for some smaller sites trying to be huge, like destructoid and a few others. They have teams of diggers that just digg the crap out of articles to put them on the front page and inflate their traffic numbers. We don't need that and it hurts us more than helps us because we're then looked at as a "fake site."
So, in summary. Digg it to support it, and tell your friends about 2old2play. Just don't be so blatent about it on other sites as to make people think you're working for us as an ad agency or PR firm. You're a gamer, and let them know that fact first. If they ask for more information, you can tell them where all the cool kids are at.
