Shared on Thu, 04/28/2011 - 14:29 Maybe it’s me, but I don’t understand gamers who only play one game all year long. How many spend their entire time on the 360 with either just Halo or Call of Duty? It seems like a waste of a good gaming system. $300 dollars and you never branch out beyond this one game. In fact I think there should be some new name for those types of people. We can call them Haloers or Dutiers, but not gamers. It would be like owning an Italian Restaurant, but only serving spaghetti.
This year has been called the year of the FPS. With Killzone 3, Resistance, Brink, Rage, Battlefield 3, Call of Duty, Crysis 2, Homefront, Bulletstorm, Duke Nukem…well actually it looks like the market is oversaturated, but what about year of the RPG. With Two Worlds 2, Dragon Age 2, Dungeon Siege 3, The Witcher, The Last Gaurdian, Elder Scrolls V, Dues Ex: Human Revolution, Lord of the Rings: War in the North, Mass Effect 3, Diable 3, etc…. The shear number is impressive and judging the pedigree of these games, it looks like the Game of the Year will come from this category. So from now on….2011 will be referred to as: the year of the RPG, Sony Exclusives, and Xbox’s poor support of their core gamer.
I saw someone mentioned that a map in the Halo: Reach Map pack felt like an old school Halo map. I call shenanigans! As long as they keep those poorly conceived armor load outs, then the game will never feel like old school Halo. I pray they don’t make a return to the next installment in the series.
Well so far this year is off to a hell of a start in terms of games. Dead Space 2, Bulletstorm, Killzone 3, Little Big Planet 2, Dragon Age 2 and Crysis 2 have all came out and have received a metacritic rating above 85% and 3 of them (Crysis 2, Dead Space 2, and Little Big Planet) have a 90% or better. Not only are we getting a slew of new games, but we are getting high quality games. If the year keeps this pace then we may have the best year for games since the invention of gaming. Let’s not forget that we still have the sequels to 3 Game of the Year winners. Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (Oblivion won in 2006), Uncharted 3 (Uncharted 2 won in 2009) and Mass Effect 3 (Mass Effect 2 won just last year).
If you haven’t picked up Crysis 2 yet then stop reading and go out and purchase it. Well I doubt that will actually happen since most of you won’t buy it unless it has Halo or COD in the title, but you are missing out on one of the best multiplayer experiences to date. Smooth controls, best graphics on a console, fantastic story, and an excellent multiplayer. For you Halo freaks/nerds….the Nanosuit makes the MJOLNIR armor look ancient technology. Imagine comparing the Wright Bros. plane to the Stealth Bomber of today and you will have an idea of how much more advance this suit is. Also you can grab and climb up on buildings, ledges….and your character can swim!!!
I finally got a PS3 and as a full on 360 “fanboy” or “Xbot” I thought I would give my completely biased opinions on the machine. It may seem like a waste to own a 3rd system, but I have my reasons for buying a PS3. Wanted a console for my bedroom, Blu-ray, several exclusives I am very interested in playing, and online is free. After spending the weekend with my new toy I concluded that the PS3 may be the better of the two consoles…at least from a hardware standpoint. Looking at the comparison of Xbox’s Dashboard/Live compared to Playstation’s…Xbox Dashboard/Live is comparable to AOL. Easy to use, but limited in functionality. Plus, my Star Trek dynamic theme is pretty sweet. Overall, I love the PS3 and would encourage anyone to move past your Xbox fanboyism and give it a shot. Blu-Ray, Free online, Uncharted, MLB the Show, Heavy Rain, The Last Guardian, Demon Souls, Little Big Planet…well you get the point…hell, I may even be a PS3 fanboy now.
My backlog of games is becoming an issue. I have Killzone 3,, Dead Space 2, Uncharted 2, Torchlight, Portal 2 and MLB 11: The Show and have not finished any of them. I have basically a couple of weeks until Brink and LA Noire drop so I have some hardcore campaigning to do. My only issue is that every time I get rolling in a game I see The Show, sitting there, begging me to play another game in my season. “Come on Truth, finish your series with the Blue Jays”, and I do because I give into “game pressure”. Hopefully I can stay focus and finish up these games before I get more.
That’s it from me for now. I’m off to finish up some games and attpempt to get my money’s worth. Enjoy your games and hit me up if you are on.
