Both Xbox's Dead and broke = no gaming for me

How perfect life can be sometimes...

You get your tax bill, mortgage bill, plan a trip to Boston, and have to buy gifts for the holidays.  On top of that your heater breaks and its 18 degrees in Chicago.  You're barely getting by day to day.  Your only refuge is your Xbox for the cheap fun it provides you with friends.  What could possibly go wrong?   How about BOTH of your Xbox's red ring on the same night!  Cause that is what happened to me.  Ironic that being broke might be the thing that actually pushes me back into WoW.  Not sure how long it will be until I can afford a new box or fix one of these. Sorry about venting, life just sucks sometimes.

buy a used launch xbox, run a demanding game, heat your house! Everyone wins!

I have replaced three of my sons Xboxes that were technically "out of warranty". One was even because he punched it. There was no red ring! I don't think they even check anymore. Just go online and start a repair ticket. Put Red Ring for the problem (even if its not) and send that puppy in. Every time I did it, the serial number would come up as "out of warranty" but once I said the problem was RROD it was covered and the repair request went through. You will have a refurb box back in your hands in about two weeks.

Caesar nailed it! You did 'forget' to cancel your pre-order for the WoW expansion after all... Seriously though, don't go back to WoW or before you know it you'll have missed Christmas.

I have used this kit 3 times, its easy to install and works great. Its also cheaper then having Microsoft fix it if its out of warranty. http://secure.llamma.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=73_101&products_...

Sorry to hear about your luck, man. I tried the clamp kit on an old launch day box and it didn't work. It popped back on for a couple of seconds and then RROD again, so I took it all apart and tried again to no avail. Still, I'm willing to accept the possibility that mine was just a weird case or, more likely, that I was doing it wrong. It's certainly worth a try for the money.

lets be rational first. Are your boxes out of warranty? Remember you have a 3 year warranty with them. If they are out of warranty, do not forget that Mass fixes xboxes...hit me up for the info.

My heater broke too during a record cold streak here in cali, was down to 30 degrees at nights, got down to 48 degrees in the house. Thankfully the heater's fixed now but the damn thing is 30 years old so next year it's gotta be replaced, every year it's got one problem or another.

@Walladog I'm going to try that today and see if they will take them back. Hoping it wont matter since they RROD. @Caesar I don't need an excuse to play WoW. I'm just not going to spend more money to fix an Xbox in order to be entertained. I wish I had the luxury to purposely kill my 2 Xbox's in order to play 1 game, but I'm not that lucky. @Snuphy Agreed, and playing with it is FREE. I got the Halo box to boot up this morning. I let it sit overnight and it seemed to turn on. It's the same story though, it red rings randomly and then won't turn on for a whole day. I'm hoping that I can just send them both back as walla suggested. The worst part is no media center in my living room. I HAD TO READ LAST NIGHT.

doodi... find a local repair person. If your xboxs are past warranty, just take it to one of them... Should only cost about $50 to fix... that's what I did with my elite twice before it died past fixing.

Yeah. I did the X-Clamp fix on my launch box and it went strong for a good few months before I traded it in for my Slim. Cost like $5 for parts.

Oh and sorry about the Xbox. You are having the same luck as me this month. Mine got stolen instead of red ringed but broke=gone either way. Hope they fix that shit for you and take care of you. Hope to see you back soon.

Likely excuse. Shit, towel trick the boxes and trade them in to Lamestop for an XBox Slim.

If nothing else follow the youtube tutorials on removing the xbrackets and redoing the heatsinks, thermal paste, overheat the board, and put it all back together.
