Another day, another blather.

Before getting into The Real World, I guess I should talk a little more about this one. I have never been a long term joiner of groups until this one. I have belonged to a couple of astronomy clubs, a Civil War round table, and a high power rifle shooting team and club. This group (2o2p) and my clan (2o2pwn) have captured my interest like no others. When you see the diverse group of people involved, it is incredible. I suppose part of the attraction is getting to know viewpoints from so many parts of the U.S. and Canada. Although there are people from other parts of the world too, I do not really come into contact with them because of the time differences but I hope that in the future, I can include them in my active contacts.

There are things that are uncomfortable about belonging but those are more the result of my own limitations and upbringing. The swearing and use of the F word, especially by the females, I sometimes find to be more than I prefer. It is not that I do not know and sometimes use them (I did spend three years in the Army and worked in plant when I was young), it is just that my own need to control myself with my kids (in their youth) has made me more sensitive to the casual use of words that, for me, should be reserved for intense moments and in limited surroundings.

Please understand that I am NOT asking that people modify their speech, only that I will probably never use it to the extent of the younger generation (strange to say on a forum for older folks!).

I suppose that this is enough rambling for this post, so until later (or never), FRAG ON!

hey doorgunner, i promise like hell to watch my damn language from now on. I dont want to upset you with my shitty talk. :D LOL Seriously though, what upsets me is hearing all the "timmies" out there in MM using language that would make a sailor blush. Its ridiculous for kids that age to be talking like that. I dont know who Id like to smack more, the kids or their parents for letting them get by with it.

I agree with you. Having "been there done that" I make my best effort to abstain from swearing when on XBL. I try to think of the parents in the clan whose kids are watching them play, and dont want to be "that guy" who comes through the TV loudspeaker saying "Stupid @#$%^% I @#^$# killed you first you @%^@%#$!!!" While I probably would not say "guys can we tone down the language" in the pre-game lobby, there are times I turn down the volume on my headset and TV because of it. The other main issue I have with the site and its members is the abundance of what amounts to soft-core images in sigs, blogs, and threads. I generally avoid the NSFW threads, since 1) I visit the site from work on occasion, and 2) I would not want my wife to walk in at home and vehemently object to the images on the screen (FYI, though, I use Firefox browser and their "Adblock" extension to block objectionable sigs/images that I would see on a regular basis). The sites policy is no nudity, which I commend. Some folks push the envelope, though, and get as close to it as possible. Thats their call, and I accept that if I dont like it, I can leave. But, like you, I love this community, and enjoy being a part of it. Looking forward to playing with you more.

I was raised by a father who spent 28 days of the month working in the bush. When he came home, every 2nd word was f*ck or worse. I think the use of expletives is primarily caused by either poor language skills, poor vocabulary, or getting my f*&#ing @$$ handed to me to many g@dd@#ned times on clan night.

The diveristy is what makes it for me too I think. I am a little curious why it all seems to work. On occasion it doesnt work at all, as weve seen. Another mystery. Im with you on the language even though my incidence of swearing is on the upswing. Still, you mostly hear me saying, darn, shoot, Geez and son of a (silence).

My catch phrases are usually "You gotta be kidding me" , "Give me a break" , and "What the."

I actually thought the opposite - that there was a remarkable absence of excessive cursing. Every once in a while there is a night that is replete with expletives, but overall I dont get the same sense. Of course, I work in the trucking industry, so it is more common where I am. I guess Dad is just a prude.
