They thought originally that it was appendicitis so they operated on him but the appendix was fine (they took it out anyway). Been to several hospitals and then this week he was admitted to our local hospital, then to a children's hospital nearby and now down at the University of Chicago Children's Hospital where they have confirmed a diagnosis of leukemia today. We took his grandmother (my wife's sister in law) down there today to be with him and his parents.
To quote his mother from a Facebook post, "So, we have an official diagnosis... it is ALL, Acute lymphoblastic leukemia, a very treatable, curable cancer. Tomorrow he will get a spinal tap, another bone biopsy and aspiration, a PICC line (long term IV) and start his Chemo." He was doing pretty well today for the most part but he has his ups and downs.
Just wanted to add that the staff at UofC Hospital is absolutely outstanding. We got to sit in with some of them while they were briefing his mom and dad and were totally impressed with their knowledge, compassion, and willingness to include the family in the process.
For those who believe, please say a prayer for Sean and his family.
