A sad day for 2old2play

Well, coming off the high of the LAN, some really sad site related stuff went down today. Doodi and I brought down the 2old4duty clan forums after much deliberation. One of our longtime site mods was the leader of the clan, but felt like branching outside of 2old2play. When he started a separate clan site we werent happy, but we gave him the benefit of the doubt. Turns out that wasn't all he was doing. He was starting a site to directly compete with 2old2play. He even went as far as to copyright 2old4duty. I mean c'mon. Stab us in the heart and shit on us. Wow. All I can say is that both J (doodi) and I were genuinely hurt by the way things went down, and we wish it could have gone very differently. We are great friends with lots of 2old4duty people, and hate to see something like this happen.

That said, the 2old4duty forums have been all shut down here at 2old2play. If some of their group wants to hang out elsewhere that's fine, but we know that the friendships we've made with lots of 2o4d people are stronger than that. For the 2old4duty people, you can stay, or you can go. There was a coup in the works for a long time, and we're really not happy about it. It seems like there cannot be a clean, easy split here. It has to be definitive. Those of you that were not involved, we want you to stay. We will make sure you have everything you need here at 2old2play to be successful in helping your clan rise anew from the ashes. For those of you that weaseled backroom shit behind our backs, shame on you. We bent over backwards to do what we could for you and you fuck us over? A copyright? Come on...

That's all I can really say right now... I'm sad and pissed and displeased in general. For those of you 2o4d people I hung out with all weekend, I had a great time with you and I hope you stay.

Okay, I wasn't involved in any of this (thank god), but am just watching everything from the sidelines. Now, personally, I have no problem with another website being started to supplement/augment this one...a place away from home where you can go if this one is down for maintenance or issues, ect. I don't particularly think it was very cool with the copyright tag to it as I agree that is kind of a slap in the face to the constructors here who put in an enormous amount of their time to improve and maintain this site. Be that as it may, I generally feel there is 3 sides to every story. Their side, the other side and the truth somewhere in the middle. That being said, I don't particularly care about the details, but do have a suggestion as a learning experience for this for the site mods to minimize the mayhem for something like this future. If something like this needs to be addressed, maybe leave the read only access up on the forums with a notice that things are being researched in regards to some protocol issues and that access or further information will be forthcoming as soon as those have been addressed with the overlords of that clan. Please be patient and we will have you back up and running as soon as possible. ...or some such junk while you try to work things out behind the scenes with the parties in question. Just a thought anyway.

Since the site overlords haven't cleared up one very important fact - I'll take the liberty now. At no time was the name 2old4duty or any variation, copyrighted. Again I say - the clan name 2old4duty was NOT officially copyrighted - nor was there an intent to do so- EVER. So those who feel we stole a name based from this site, you've been misinformed.

how long have you guys known about this? before the lan? if so i feel like i was shit on. i spent near 600$ on the lan, and you guys dont have the balls to tell the members who were there what was going on to there face.you knew we were there. if you didnt know this till today then you didnt spend alot of time deliberating about this. thanks for the lan. had a great time too bad it may be my last.

As a very active and higher level 2o4D member, seeing the forum gone here really only says one thing -- 2o2p doesn't want 2o4D :( IMHO deleting the forum here was in poor taste. Heck I had to surf blogs for clues, that's kinda shitty. I know there have been grumblings in the past, but NOBODY wants to be "kicked out" of 2old2play.com .. Unfortunately that is exactly what appears to have been forced upon all of us without so much as a "what gives, guys?" Oh well, I'll continue to play with whoever I choose to play with, and since most of my friends list is 2old4duty I guess that's where I'll stay regardless of what website they hang out on. To me it was never about measuring dicks or declaring allegiances, it was about having fun and playing Call of Duty.

@Brains No forums were deleted. This is completely incorrect. They are still very much there. We simply removed access until we can get a chance to speak with people. So no poor taste there. At least not nearly as bad as building a secret site that copies almost all the functionality of this site without the respect to tell me or D. Now that was poor taste. At least you could search blogs for clues... No one is being kicked out of 2old2play. No usernames have been deleted, no ban's, no site block, nothing. This post is exactly what you say. We are asking what gives. I also dont see this at all as measuring dicks. I see this as respect... Respect to the people that give them home to gamers, who lent them their own name, and who respect them enough to try as hard as possible to work with them to create a better 2o2p.

Well, if someone went and copyrighted 2old4Duty....which is just fucking funnah...love to see that application. Wouldn't i be legally necessary for ths site to limit or remove that from here in order to keep from being sued by some asshat with a sense of grandure?

That was my point as well rystang. At least give us a heads up or announcement or something. Hell, I was in the middle of posting something and all of a sudden it tells me only admin's can access that forum. Not cool Dsmooth and Doodi, not cool at all. You guys left 150 or so of us out in the cold with no clue as to what was going on.

Personally, I'm not too concerned with the whole 'name' thing whether it stays as 2o4D, or changes to something else. It's the members that I am proud to be associated with, and will continue to game with no matter what. :)

@aimzb Yes I agree its not cool. Im really not happy with any of it. Then again I also don't think it is cool to have a secret site built without even being told. Its not like there is anything in this situation that is going to be "cool." However like I said before, the forum is not deleted. It was just blocked from new posts. So the harm done there is almost non-exsistant. At least not nearly as large compared to this situation as a whole.

I agree copyright is serious and I understand the admin interest and disappointment in the issue. What I think needs to be fixed up is the damage done by drawing people into this problem who had no idea what was going on. Members of 2o4d have said they didn't know anything about this yet they are suddenly locked out of their Forum. I think that was a mistake. How did that solve or take punitive action against a perceived copyright violation? I am of the opinion that harsh words need to be left out of further communications on this issue. It just encourages people like me to get envolved, more seriously.

If someone disliked it here enough to go somewhere else, let em in my opinion. I think our method has always been "if you want to be here, kick back, put your feet up and have a beer and a game with us. If you don't find want to be here, go somewhere where you feel comfortable". Overall, it's just gaming...losing 150 people that are active sucks, but if they dont want to be here, let me go elsewhere. To the people that don't understand why the forum is missing, spend a little time thinking about it objectively, instead of immediately getting angry. If you were in junior high, and spent a bunch of time making a sweet science fair project, and showed up at the science fair and found out that someone you thought was your best friend copied the exact project, you'd be kinda pissed wouldn't you? Put yourself in their position and think about how sensitive you'd be to something you have spent so much time on throughout the last years. Oh and /popcorn.

The remaining 2o4d people just need to band together, appoint a new leader and establish a new, non-trademarked name. And then 2o2p may need to do some TOS and trademark work to protect the IP and to keep from getting ass fucked again. Sad.
