So, I was driving to work this morning...when going up a hill the transmission dropped into second and refused to go into third. I knew that it was bad, really bad...but hoped that I could turn around and at least get it home. I turn onto a side street so I could get myself turned around and got to the stop sign at the bottom of a slight hill and of course had to stop. Applied a little pressure to the gas pedal and got nothing but a revving engine. So then I have to try and push the damn big huge Jimmy to a safe spot....I for some reason try and push it back up the hill...yeah, that didn't work. A little old man stopped to help but then gave up and left. Finally a 16 year old kid took pity on me and helped me get the car arcross the street and into a gravel area. Thank you 'Timmy'. I now have to wake sicrik up and tell him what happend... He is going to be really, really mad....and stressed because we just do not have the funds to fix it right now.

This really, really sucks.

Sorry to hear that. Have y'all been having problems with it for a while? Maybe it's as simple as a leak and you don't have enough fluid in it? Hope it all works out. BTW, next time get a Ford. They don't leave you stranded.

what year is it? anything '94 and up will have a 4l60e transmission, which is an electronically controlled transmission. it very well could be a faulty shift solenoid. if you have any questions feel free to pm me and i will see if i can help. if it needs to be fixed my advice is to go to an ATRA certified shop. www.tlctransmission.com

couple things... my Dad had a Jimmy back in the early 80's. We took it hunting one day and I "accidentally" got airborne in it... (Dad was out walking and didn't see of course)... Anyway, when we landed either myself or the other kid with me inadvertantly hit the 4x4 shift lever on the floor hump and put it in neutral. Car no go... we didn't know, thought I fucked it up big time. Anyway, Dad got in it when he eventually got there, looked down, put it in 4 high (or whatever it was) and viola! Number two.. totally separate occasion, before the evil knievil stunt, the tranny did go out, but reverse still worked. Dad had to drive it home in reverse about 3 miles. So, if you do need to move it, try reverse. Good luck though, hope it doesn't need to be replaced.
