Teaching kids not to be "Timmy's"

Occasionally I like to have each of the boys here by themselves.  Lots of one on one time and they behave soooo much better when they aren't together, lol.  One of the things we always end up doing no matter which kid it is, is playing some Halo3.  When they are playing with either Sic or myself I allow them to use a headset.  That way I can monitor what they are hearing and what they are saying to other people...they aren't allowed to use them when playing without an adult.  I take this opportunity to teach them what is appropriate behavior for children online, no smack talking the other team, cursing or T-Bagging; and also how to communicate effectively with your teammates.  Yes, they do hear the way I talk, and perhaps it is 'hypocritical' of me to not allow them to do and say the things I do, but they understand the difference between acceptable child behavior and adult behavior.   Well, they are learning at least.  :)

Anyways...my youngest son and I were playing with some 2o2p peeps and he started smack talking ME tonight, lol and then started T-Bagging the other team.  I had to tell him that wasn't okay, and that if he did it again he was done.  I can be sooo mean, lol.  I hope that by allowing them the freedom to play with us and to speak to other people when they are with us that it will help them to not become asshole Timmys in a couple years when I do let them use their headsets by themselves.  The two oldest get it a little more, my middle kiddo was doing great last week...calling out where things were, what was going on, who had what...all sorts of stuff.  He is becoming a very good teammate to have.  My oldest is much the same way, though he doesn't call out quite so much.  It really is fun teaching them this stuff, and it's something that most mom's don't really do with their kids, so I totally get to be the cool mommy!  Awesome!!

On a related note...I really wanted to thank some people, you know who you are, who have played with the kiddos and me the past few weeks.  I really appreciate the way you've treated them and how awesome you have all been.  You guys rock!  Especially E, my kids LOVE playing with you, lol.

Much love fuckers....I'm going to bed!

I actually banned my son from his 360 for a couple of days when I caught him glitching, let alone acting like one of these little shits. My nephew was barred from playing with my crew because of his "timmieness" and when I saw vulgarity in his profile I promptly let his father know.

The latest SFX360 Podcast had a segment about JVB's 12 year old kid who is now on their tournament team. Basically the whole team helps to monitor him. If he acts out (which he rarely does) dad get a call or IM and he is out for a period of time. Sounded like a cool checks and balances system. Great job BTW, you rock. :)

That is an excellent way to play with kids and more people should be as involved.
