Germany and Gears of War

In Germany there will be no Gears of War (GOW)  release at all. Why is that ?

Well some time ago, to be more precise some 67 years ago, germany started a big thing called the WO2. Was this a good thing ?, no certainly not. Lots of people died including large parts of my Dutch family, who were killed in camps. So after all this Germany decided to not be part of violence ever again. Was this a good thing ? yes it most definitly is. However :

Because of this there is a strick code for computer / console games, some games are not allowed to be sold to people under 18. You also cannot write about these games or publish reviews. Even on forums games like these are reffered to as D**M and Q*, meaning of course doom and quake. Some other games are adapted for German consumption. They replace the red blood by green and the humans by robots and *presto* it's ok.

GOW of course will loose all it's atmosphere when all the gore is replaced by something else, and rightfully so Epic decided not to change anything. As the game is now 18+, you cannot write about it or buy it. Of course Germany is an island and not connected to the internet, also no good and people transport between germany and other countries. ;)

So Hanz und Franz buy GOW right accross the border with, count them, Netherlands, Belgium, France, Switzerland, Ausstria, Czech republic, Poland, and Denmark or on any of the countless EU online software stores.

Recently a German teen went bezerk on a school with freely available frontloaders (it's history not a gun, right) and guess the reaction of the politicians : "He played computer games ! we have to ban all computer games!" Of course instead of banning frontloading guns which he bought freely on the web...

I found out however that the guy who did that ate Hamburgers ! Ban the Hambuger, you are not allowed to write about it also !

Of course daily on the German TV there is a show called "Tatort" which translates to Crime Scene, with murders, rape, killing and what not. But that's just tv right ?

There's people, animals, plants, amoebe and politicians.
