Shared on Wed, 08/04/2010 - 16:02So my friend has asked me to pick her up from the airport tomorrow... she's been pretty vague about this kinda thing in the past. Here's basically the conversation I had with her yesterday, while she is in Hungary.
Me: What time does your flight come in?
Her: I don't know, afternoon sometime.
Me: Ok, what airline are you on?
Her: Malay, but I think it's operated by someone else.
Me: Hm. Do you know what terminal you will arrive at?
Her: No.
Me: Since it's an international flight, it should be terminal D. Are you flying nonstop or is there a domestic flight change?
Her: I don't know.
Me: What city are you coming from?
Her: Budapest
Me: What's your flight number.
Her: I don't know. 771. No, 17. No, 144. Hm, I'm not sure really. Just be at the airport sometime tomorrow afternoon and I'm sure you'll find me.
Me: (me trying not to laugh uncontrollably) Are you sure you can't give me any more details? I'm not sure where to go, when to be there, or how to find out based on the information you have given me.
Her: What's the problem? Just come to the airport tomorrow sometime and I'll call you when I arrive.
Me: Are you crazy? Does your husband know your flight information? I'll just call him.
Her: No, I never tell him these things if he's not the one coming to pick me up.
Me: Just call me when you land so I know when to leave my apartment, and by the time you clear customs I'll be there probably. Just read a magazine while you wait.
Her: (in a derisive tone) Come on Erin! It's not that difficult. I am sure it will be easy to just ask someone at the airport where my flight is.
Me: (discarding the first, second and third retorts that have popped into my mind).... Ok, see you tomorrow. Just call me when you land so I can move my car to the nearest gate to get you. (Secretly planning to leave my house when she calls, screw waiting around all day at the airport.) Have a nice flight!
Her: Thanks. See you tomorrow. Oh, I think I'm coming from Chicago or Madrid.
Me: Via Budapest? On Malay Airlines? Are you sure??
Her: Don't worry about it, just be there.
Me: ....*sighhh* OK, see you tomorrow. (Hang up phone... laugh uncontrollably til I have to pee, call her husband. He doesn't know anything.)
This woman is one of my best friends-- I put up with all kinds of crap from her, but this one is just so frustratingly typical, it makes me want to re-evaluate what I'm willing to do for her. Yeah, I'll be there to get her. I'll bring a book. And a lot of dollar bills for the parking lot machine. Sighhhhh...
