Back to school

And thus ended my summer-long ability to giggle at the chumps who went off to work every Monday morning whilst I lounged about until noon, playing xbox until an obscene hour of the night. It's back to school for me tomorrow. I've been hard at work this past week at teacher training, meetings, luncheons, etc, and finally go tmy room ready. I convinced my wonderfully handsome, tall and strong boyfriend to come to school with me Saturday morning and hang pictures for me. I hadn't hung up the pics from the last three years so I figured it was about time to do it. I love that he can reach stuff that I still can't reach when I'm on a step stool. Plus, he measured everything with a tape measure, levelled the frames, etc, so everything is hanging perfectly straight, even and justified left to right. I love it! My desk is clean (and that'll be the last time it looks that way until June 3, 2012), papers are copied, gradebooks are set up, and I'm all ready to go. I LOVE the first couple days of school! It's exciting to me, and feels good to just get started again. I'm not *quite* ready to go back, but I suppose I'll just have to get over it.

I've been loving the Alice game- finished it and went back for the other side quests and things. It's a great game, even for the second or third time through. Next challenge is to play through it on Nightmare difficulty. I finished From Dust, and enjoyed it, but once I get all the achievements I won't feel bad about deleting it.  I don't need to play that one twice. I finished the Bastion, and am partway through the next round of it- things are harder but you get to keep what you earned. It reminded me of when you beat Super Mario Bros for the first time, and then when you pressed start to begin a new game it started you with the beetle guys and the levels had a red tinge to them, and everything was harder and faster (tee hee).

My student orchestra that meets on Sundays just resumed and we had a moderately successful first rehearsal. My group got absolutely raided for kids who were ready for the next level up. I am short 5 that I fully expected to have, but c'est la vie. Time to put those recruitment techniques into practice.

The tattoos are healing nicely, but I didn't account for one major factor: the solar plexus one is not healing as fast because it's in a high traffic area. I wouldn't have thought so, but the bra rubs it when I'm wearing it, and unless I'm lying flat, without the bra it's still not fully uncovered. That one has been temperamental. The f-holes on my neck look great! That took longer than I expected but it is really sharp looking and if I'm wearing the right shirt, my hair and shirt together manage to cover it so I don't show it at school. Also in the right shirt I can show it off nicely. :)

I made a gorgeous stuffed chicken for dinner (Matt helped quite a lot actualy- we're cooking together more often now), and for the first time ever, I made homemade donuts from scratch, even the fillings and glazes. They were SO GOOD! They're heavy enough that I wouldnt' want them frequently, but once a year would be fine. I'm impressed with them.

Now I better be off to bed; can't start school yawning! To everyone who has kids back to school tomorrow, good luck and don't believe them when the kids say they didn't learn anything and they didn't have any papers for you to sign.

Can't really offer you much advice - just try not to let small stuff affect you. However, the real reason for my comment: the cat in your background looks like one of my cats. She loves Peggle.

Congratulations. I am a non-traditional student and really enjoy the classes. You will probably do better now than you did before since it will mean and matter more!

Haha! Nice. This is Sam. He's a nosey little bugger and always sits with me when I'm playing. I thought maybe he'd like a try at Galaga.

I decided to go back to school at well. Although it hasn't been that long for me (I got my first degree 2 years ago) it's still hard to make the decision to go back, add in the age disparity between you and the other, younger students and you feel a little more challenged. Most of my peers aren't even of drinking age. It's even worse when trying to juggle a 9-5 and go to classes at night and still have time for your family. You really have to have an understanding family and support where you can get it.

Thanks to all for the encouragement. I really mean that. And no, Gordon does not suck. You do know he has 4 championships and 75 wins not counting all the non point event wins. That my friend is not sucky

Hey buddy, I dropped out of high school at 17 to join the Marine Corps. At 27 I started at a local community college. Do not think that you're being "older" than everyone else in class is a liability. Being older means you have more real-world experience to draw on, a head for organization that these kids just out of high school don't have, and best of all, you'll probably get more respect from your teacher/professor than any of your classmates. Mine were always glad to see me because they really know what you're doing. Hang tough and keep at it.

Awesome! Coming from a prior Masshole, you picked one of the best schools to shoot for. I would have done my MBA there had they had a part time program. Unfortunately, the Sloan School of Business only does full-time gigs, and I couldn't swing that with the family, so had to "settle" for Babson. :) Swing into the Necco factory and pick something up for me when ya' get time. I worked for Genzyme for almost 9 years right around the corner from there, and have many a fond memory of skating through MIT on the way to the Esplanade. B.

Here is a mention of Rodney in Back to School. "Bring us a pitcher of beer every seven minutes until somebody passes out. And then bring one every ten minutes. "

The market place certainly likes the degrees. Stick with it. You will want to quit a thousands times. But its worth it!
