Shared on Sun, 08/01/2010 - 09:32It's official, I was asked last night to be a conductor for the youth orchestra and I accepted! The delay apparently was over the fact that since I teach full time, some members of the board were concerned I'd not have enough time to dedicate to the ensemble, given my present duties and obligations. Their solution: go to the #2 candidate (who is also a full time teacher) and ask her to take the first semester and I'll cover the second semester, and if there are weeks where we have conflicts we can switch hit for each other. I think this is an excellent solution, especially since I was worried about the additional time commitment involved. Negatives: I won't get to the know the kids as well, the spring semester is the one where I'm ridiculously busy already, and now it's half the pay (still not griping about extra money coming my way though). I decided I should do it since it's an excellent opportunity and I'd be foolish to miss out.
Right now there are blueberry muffins in the oven, strong dark coffee in the pot (however I have elected to have my usual breakfast of Diet Coke a.k.a. the Elixir of Life), and I have no real obligations until Aug.16. I like this. Actually, I have lunch with my parents and sister and her family at 11, I guess I better start getting dressed.
