New apartment jerks!!

I lost my new apartment. I said I wanted to move on May 15, they agreed. I went to go sign my lease and they said April 16 was what I signed up for. We argued, they said I misunderstood. I would NEVER have said April because I'm far too bloody busy, and May was gonna be tight as it is. Long story short, they ate my deposit, I'm screwed out of my apartment and my money. I don't have anything in writing (at least nothing on a legal form of any kind) other than the brochure he handed me, stating my intended move in date. I have called three times with no return phone call, and they closed office before 5pm today, so when I drove by there at 4:45 to talk with them they were already gone. So now I need a new place to live, and fast. I already gave notice at my current apartment, and I have half my house packed. WTF!?! I'm so frustrated and tired of BS. There are plenty other places to live but this one was amazing. I'm going over to their office tomorrow and staying put until I either get my deposit back, or speak to the manager and get something worked out.

that sucks. can't believe they didn't give you a receipt for the deposit or a copy of some sort of agreement. Did you fill out an application? Could be there's a "desired move in date" on that?

Most states have very strict rules on lease or rent agreements, and the burden is on the landlord or mangagement company. I would check with your local city hall to find out what is legal.

moving is stressful, doesn't matter if it's apartments or houses. Hopefully you can get it worked out. They probably already cashed it but if not, you could call the bank to put a cancel on the check.

I work professionally in property management in Florida. I deal with issues all the time. Did you fill out a application for approval? When did you fill it out? Were there move in specials involved, etc, that may have been of a time sensitive nature? I would be glad to help you out, if I can. PM me if you would like to discuss it further. It's the least I can do for a fellow member of 2o2p!!!!!!!
