Shared on Wed, 08/11/2010 - 01:28Tonight my boss invited me over to her house for wings, wine and Wii. I passed on the wine and went with water. (Are you enjoying my alliterative narrative?) I ate the wings (garlic parmesan....droooool) and got totally spanked on Tetris. My boss is a year older than me, if that, and we work very closely together throughout the year so it's not like a weird boss/employee thing. She's the head director at the high school, I'm the head director at the junior high. Anyway, she and her husband invited me over to hang out for a bit and it was a really nice time! I learned that I SUCK at Tetris with all this new crap that's in it. Whatever happened to original Tetris?? (And for the record, XBOX360 spanks Wii any day.)
Anyway, we got to talking about stuff, as women do (her husband just tuned us out, excepting the obligatory smack talk), and updated each other on what's been going on all summer. She and I have worked together 5 years now and know a lot about our personal histories, etc. But I learned a lot tonight. She did too actually. I spent 5 hours over there, having a wonderful time. We talked about serious stuff, silly stuff, and work stuff over wings and Beavis & Butthead on the TV. :-) If it weren't for my eyes threatening to close I'd have stayed longer. I found out that she's never been to a girls' night, and that she doesn't have any close girlfriends! I was surprised, she's a lovely person. Anyway, we decided we should hang out more and have some of my grilfriends over sometime. She wants to come with me the next time I get a tattoo done (still awaiting artwork, which I know will be fabulous!!)
Then she and her husband invited me to a party a friend of theirs is having, and offered to set me up with him. It turns out I already know him (professionally only- I've been at a few orchestra events he's attended or led). But I said I'd go Friday just for fun, no need to set me up. First, I'm tagging along with them & crashing his party, and secondly, I won't date any other orchestra directors. My ex husband is one and I've had enough of that. (Plus, this guy is awesome and I'd fear my natural competitive edge would come out more often than is healthy or welcome.)
So a good time was had by all, and plans to do a girls' night are in motion. No strawberry daquiris this time. I'm thinking oreo milkshakes... or brownie and peanut butter milkshakes. Yummmm. Hey Matt--- I gave them a couple bottles of that Smokehouse beer- yeah both of them think it's sickening. The rest are yours buddy.
