Update moving info

I feel like I've been swindled and got a good deal at the same time. Here's how it went down: they offered me a free month if I move in tomorrow (that's right, tomorrow). In their defense, this was Wednesday they mentioned that. I argued with them some more but didn't want to lose the apartment so I took the deal. It's the busiest week of all time (I know I've said that before, but this week is even busier, so it trumps the others), and I have literally no time to even go over there tomorrow and pick up my key. I have to cut a class to do this. Luckily I have some very nice colleagues who will cover for me. So before I can get my key, I have to give the office my cats' rabies vaccination records, so I have an early morning vet appointment, right after I have an obscenely early rehearsal with a student for Tuesday's contest. Then go get the key, and actually move some things in.

I was going to type out the rest of the junk I'm doing, but I'm losing valuable packing time. GTG.

Oh, Portal 2 is out tomorrow night!!!! Eeeee!!!! I'm so excited I'm squealing. Not like I"ll have time to play it for like a month. One last thing- last night's NTSO concert was amazing and then was followed by a trip to Rafain, a Brazilian churrascurria featuring the most delectable meats and cheese, and of course caiparihnas. Drooool!! Great day, yesterday.

Every cloud has a silver lining. I'm glad it worked out in the end. I love your Blog. It reads like an adventure book.

How did you get swindled? You "move in" tomorrow which means you just pick up the key. Spend the next month slowly moving things over. They gave you a free month, you wanted to move in on May 15th, your free month starts now. There's no money out of your pocket. The only thing is that your lease is up a month early.

I'm actually in my old place until May 31, so I'm paying for that, plus the prorated month of May, so I'm out $400 (not a big deal, but still). The swindling occurred when I reiterated May 15 several times and they spoke that same date back to me. Suddenly is changed to April and they had no memory of mentioning May. I think that's crap. Secondly, a variety of items that were mentioned as rent-inclusive are actually not inclusive- they're extra and they're compulsory (i.e. trash pick up is $20 a month). Third- the pet deposit of $700 is only 50% refundable (normal) but the remaining 50% isn't used towards cleaning/damages/carpet shampoo etc when I move out. The pet cleanup fee is an additional charge. This was not mentioned to me until I was already signing the lease. What I've learned: ask far more questions than I did, and expect people to blindside you with fees.
