Since I suspected that the only place I would have dropped it was by my locker, I knew the worst had happened…. someone had my wallet. Before I could even get home to get the credit card canceled, this “individual” (from this point he will be referred to as Jack A.) Ran up a $350+ charge at a grocery store (I guess they don’t check id anymore) and $30+ at a gas station…. Argh!!!! I shut down the credit card, atm card, etc. All that was left was my drivers license and insurance card. At this point, I figure I am out the cash in my wallet and a little inconvenience.
A few months pass by and I have completely forgotten about the incident. That is until I receive a bill for emergency services from a hospital in Las Vegas. Jack A. used my, now expired, insurance card and drivers license to obtain treatment. Turns out, Jack A. had stitches in his lip… my guess is he pissed someone off and got into a fight. Anyway, after several calls to the hospital and doctor’s office, notarized letters and filing a police report… I get that all settled….. Maybe this is over once and for all.
Guess again…. Jack A. has turned up again, now locally. I recently get another set of bills from a local emergency room. This time Jack A. just used my drivers license and said he didn’t have insurance, why the MO changed I don’t know. But of course, the bill goes directly to me. Luckily, I had the previous police report and other evidence to back up my story that it wasn’t me who received the treatment, so after a couple of phone calls and have cleared up this one….. so far.
Will Jack A. strike again? Who knows? But what possesses someone to do this? I could almost see it if he had been homeless and desperate, but he picked up my wallet in a gym. All I can hope for is that karma will come around and bite Jack A. in the you know what.
