Shared on Sat, 02/25/2012 - 10:50I came across a news release for the video game Game of Thrones which is scheduled for release on Xbox (and PS3) this on the interwebs yesterday. Its based on the George R.R. Martin book series A Song of Ice and Fire and the HBO series. Yes, I know, you knew that already. But, for those who might not have known it gives them a refernce point. The release mentioned it comes out in May 2012. Since that is after the end of the Mayan calender and therfore the end of the world, it might not matter. The thing is, it hasn't gotten a huge amount of buzz. From what I've seen, it looks like a little of Skyrm / Assasins Creed / Alamur / ect. ect. ect. thrown together.
That made me think of something Cryptic Cat mentioned the other day. Primarily the lack of inovation in game design primarily as it applies to RPG style games. I don't know how good this Game of Thrones game could be since there has not been a whole lot of publicity.I know the HBO series probably was the incentive to make the game in order to cash in the popularity of the series but after reading the books, I don't think the depth of the story can be transferred to a video game.
I will be curious to see the reviews for Game of Thrones when it comes out. I know there has to be some type of quest line in order to move the game along, but I don't want another go here - get this -bring it back- and repeat sequence game play. Me, I'd like to go North of the Wall and do some exploration.
