Shared on Sun, 09/26/2010 - 17:12I have to admit it; I'm a Halo fan. Not a fanboy, although I wanted the Halo 3 legendary edition with the Spartan helmet until I learned it wasn't full size. Why I would need to wear a Spartan helmet was never the issue. But what's the point of having a helmet if you can't wear it, right? I have read some of the books, but not all of them. Even though I don't own any of the collector's figures, there's that 14 year old kid in me that looks at some of these collections and thinks, " Man thats so cool!".
Halo was the game that made me jump from Playstation to Xbox. It was one of my favorite games on Xbox and when Halo2 came out, I couldn't wait to play. Halo 2 was also my introdution to online multiplayer. When Halo 3 came out, I used it as an excuse to buy the 360. After Halo 3, I tried some multiplayer, but I just didn't get into it. I prefered the campaign to jumping and running around the same maps trying not to get my ass handed back to me. I then started playing Call of Duty and Halo just dropped off the radar. I had already finished the games and I was getting out of online play. I was sick and tired of being in games with mush mouth kids with serious personality disorders.
Time passed, and when COD 4 came out, I tried a little bit of online gaming again. Nope, Xbox Live was still populated with a-holes so, see ya. I had been signed up on this site since 2006, but I hadn't checked in for a while. One day, I decide to see if I couyld find some adults who play and avoid the deeply disturbed twelve year olds. Now I'm in a clan with some people more closely to my own age and personality and who actually carry on entire games without dropping N bombs or telling everyone how gay this or that is or screaming how every thing sucks.
When Halo Reach was announced, I put in my pre order and when it arrived, I took a day and played the campaign. I really liked the game. There were some things I would have done a little different, and if you had read the novel, "The Fall of Reach", then you may have been thinking that some of the story line and the characters were not the same. After the campaign was finished, I decide to at least try some online play. Again, it was a mixed bag. Overall, it was O.k. I really like the co op campaign. I have done a couple of campaign levels with another clan member, and its a lot of fun and a sense of accomplishment to use coordinated teamwork when working through a level on Legendary. I don't think I'll play much of the other ones except maybe firefight.
My Reach experience was enough to rekindle my interest in Halo, and I had to go back and play ODST which I had passed on when it came out. Again, another good campaign. I'm glad I went back and played it. Someday I may have to take a week of vacation and play the whole story arc Reach through Halo 3 (although I really hate the final driving stage on Halo and Halo3)
Well done Bungie. Thanks for all the hard work that made these games so enjoyable.
