Shared on Tue, 08/03/2010 - 22:43O.K. I admit it. I bought the hype. When Ea announced that Medal of Honor was coming back, I was stoked. I had played MOH from the first one through MOH Airborne. After that, Call of Duty seemed to take over. Now, MOH is back and the forums and magazine articles said MOH was going to give COD a run for it's money. Everyone was excited and raving about how good the game looks and plays. I jumped in and preordered the game. Since I preordered, I got a code for the multiplayer beta. Great!
Or not. The beta wasn't ready for 360 but hey, PC / PS3 guys go on in! 360 guys we'll extend the beta testing. Honest, but look! we're cool! We have a Twitter Page!
Finally last week, the beta was up and running. Alright! in the pool! Wow. two maps, two game types, over and over and over and over....
What the?? I'm running around and suddenly without warning, I freeze up and I'm dead. No red flash, no jelly, just suddenly no response fron the controller and I'm down. Thats not good. There's an enemy! aim shoot, hit, hit, hit, what? oh great, now I'm dead. Yay lag.
Finally after playing the same maps to death I now know pretty much where the enemy will come from, where they will position themselves and I'm slowly starting to not suck. I see some Battlefield influence in the weapon upgrades linked to leveling up, friend or foe indicators and limited player types, (soldier, sniper, of course, and special ops guy) and yes, you can operate a vehicle in one of the maps. One thing that is missing is destructive enviroments. You can shoot RPG's at a cinderblock wall all day long and it won't penetrate, much less blow a hole in it. Definitely need to fix that. The hit indicators also need a lot of work. I can't imagine you shooting someone three to four times not killing them then die as soon as someone else hits you once.
I have noticed the last couple of days, there seems to be some tweaks and improvements. I am starting to see some hit indicators prior to instant death and it seems the hits on enemies are working a little better.
EA has decided to end the beta on Aug 9. Thanks EA for only giving 360 people three weeks. But hey! if you pre order you will get a beta code for battlefield 3 but only if it's ready within 12 months of MOH's release. Maybe. Hey! did we mention we have a Twitter page?
I am still looking foward to the campaign mode. But i don't think it's going to be a COD "killer"
