Anticipation! Excitement! ... What the f#%k???

Just two blogs down I asked for opinions on the PS3 and if, 2 years after its release, it's worth spending part of my tax refund on. You spoke, I listened- BalekFekete pointed me in the direction of a 20% off coupon at Dell.com (and ironically enough, he is the same person who convinced me to buy the 360 and pointed me in the direction of this site. You gotta admit, the guy is incredibly persuasive).

Long story short I received the Playstation 3 today and ran over to Best Buy to pick up the necessities- Little Big Planet, the Blu-Ray remote, and a Blu-Ray (Dark Knight, of fucking course). Blu-Ray and HD game play are obviously a huge part of Sony's marketing so I want to get the full experience. Drive the 45 minutes back home in a snow storm, walk the dog, get some food ready for the kid, and get ready to hook this bitch up.

I prepare for the 56 inch HD goodness that awaits. To get to the inputs on my TV, I have to move lots of shit out of the way so I start moving a table, a rack with about 500 DVD's, and pull the TV away from the wall so I could see the inputs. I then open the PS3 box and pull pieces out one by one. Dualshock controller, quick start guide and warranty information, the console itself, power cord, USB cord, and AH! There's the A/V cable. But something seems wrong.

3 connectors. Yellow, Red, and White. Ironically the same three colors I have access to on the front of the TV, negating all the work I did to pull the TV out. The same colors as the original fucking Playstation I purchased in nineteen ninety fucking nine. 10 years ago. Before anybody knew what the fuck "high definition" even meant.

So out of the box, this $400 console is a Playstation 2 and a DVD player. I know, I can just go back to Best Buy and throw another $25 at them for a component cable. Did I mention it's 45 minutes each way and it's snowing outside???? I have to get my kid to bed in 20 minutes.

So out of principle, Batman waits. Little Big Planet waits. And I sit here writing a pissed off blog.

(For the record in 24 hours I'll likely be posting another blog that says "this thing is freaking incredible!" But for now, I like sulking in overreaction to my inability to look at all the fine print.)

@Lux - it does. Nor - you want to connect via HDMI if its an option. If you can wait, monoprice.com is the place to get cables. Otherwise, closest place around. :) Also, squirrel away $60. You must, and I mean MUST, get Killzone 2. I just got my copy in today from Hong Kong (10 days in advance of the NA release) and it's simply awe inspiring.

The big TV doesn't take HDMI :-( But I just ordered an HDMI to DVI-D cable for the 1080p monitor upstairs, and a PS3 component cable for the big screen, both on ebay. $11 for both!
