Finest restaurant in Milwaukee?

I posted a blog about 2 months ago asking for your advice in a day trip for next month, when I have a conference in Milwaukee. We decided to go to Chicago for the day trip, and then at some point during the week checking out the Miller Brewery tour in Milwaukee.

The next challenge is this: one of our very loyal clients is the chair of the conference committee so she will be in town when we are there. On the Saturday night when we all fly in, we are going to take her and her coworkers out to dinner as a "thank you" for her business and her loyalty. I've researched a few different restaurants online but I am sure I'm missing at least one. I'm not exactly a high cuisine kind of guy so my efforts online could potentially have been a bit misguided.

This is where I need you, the current or former Milwaukeeans of 2old2play, to give me a recommendation. The conference is at the Midwest Airlines Center and all our hotels are in the same vicinity. Where are the finest restaurants in that part of town? We don't want to hold back (and the company is paying for it, not me ) and this client really is very valued to us, so a $200-per-bottle-wine type of place is what we're looking for.

If anybody has any suggestions, let's hear 'em!

Well I have never been to Milwaukee, but I am a sucker for fine restaurants. Been to the best from San Francisco to Paris. The website I recommend is 10best.com http://www.10best.com/Milwaukee,WI/Restaurants/Best_Restaurants/ It usually depends on the client. I hate taking laid backed clients to fancy restaurants, but then their are others that are hard to impress so only the best will suffice. Sanford would be my pick if sophisticated is the way you want to go. http://www.sanfordrestaurant.com/ For an extensive wine list Osteria del Mondo. http://getosteria.com/

I am a Milwaukee native. If it's fine dining you're looking for you are in the wrong city. Don't get me wrong. I love Milwaukee's food. It just doesn't have the upper class dining that most city's have. Most of the places on the top 10 list are not fine dining. Ichiban is a "ok" place that's located in a strip mall. Mader's is a pretty good German place. The two places that come to the top of my head are .Lake Park Bistro and Bacchus. LPB is on the east side. Very good food. Bacchus is a drive outside of the city. P.S. I just talked to my sister who just ate at a place called "Carnevor". She said it was really good. Her steak cost her $160. I guess it's kinda new(I moved out of Milwaukee 4 years ago). And it's downtown. Carnevor "Steakhouse Moderne" in downtown Milwaukee 724 N Milwaukee St., Milwaukee, WI 53202; Tel. 1.866.257.4069

Great suggestions, and ekattan I'll have to use that site a bit more... we don't wine and dine clients a whole lot, but that site will help the few times a year where it does come up. I like the steakhouse idea too - as long as none of the clients are vegetarians, I think we may have a winnah!
