I don't even care about the Apple logo or the touchscreen; for me, the functionality of it far surpasses any other handheld device I've ever had my hands on. And like most Americans, I wanted Bigger and Better!
About a week ago I started doing some research on "jailbreaking" - basically a hack to the OS that allows you to go beyond the limitations of iTunes. Last night I finally bit the bullet and started the process. Jailbreaking took only about 2 minutes and was incredibly easy. Restoring all my contacts and settings took, well, considerably longer. But in the end I'm very happy with the result because quite simply, I'm a geek that loves this sort of shit.
One of the first apps I installed is Winterboard. It's basically a simple application that allows you to quickly and easily overhaul the GUI. For example the home screen, which is somewhat well-known from the commercials, now looks like this on my phone:
Another major advantage is the ability to install programs you may not be able to find in the app store. I am a huge fan of emulation and there are a ton of emulators available for a jailbroken phone that will play rom's collected from the internet. Here is the first old school game I installed, and I'll probably be playing it at work all day tomorrow:
My wife thinks I'm excited over nothing. But I'm a geek, goddammit!
Side Note: I just checked the comments from my last blog about the production company name and saw a couple comments I didn't notice earlier. Brad suggested Mountain Media - I'm thinking we have a winner, as that has been the front runner for the last few days. I'm not 100% sure but I may have to go with Crotch Munkee as per Snuphy's recommendation
