Shared on Mon, 08/29/2011 - 09:5224 hours after Irene we are without power at our house. I'm really curious to know how the power grid is laid out in my neighborhood - while driving around early this morning I noticed a lot of homes still seem to have power even really close to me. So far here's what I have been able to determine:
The dirt road, half a mile from my house, and everything going west past the ski area has power. Everything in red (my road, and the road connecting me to the main road) does not have power. There is a really big tree on the lines (the "big fucking tree" in yellow) on the main road, and a smaller tree on lines on the side road. I didn't see many lights on this morning so I'm guessing that everything east of my house is also without power.
The thing that really gets me is that as you can see, I'm literally on the line between having power and not. But I'm on the wrong side of the line. I'm really hoping the culprit is the "big fucking tree" and not the smaller tree - the big tree will definitely be cleaned up today. If the smaller tree is the reason I don't have power, there are maybe 30 houses (max) that are affected which means we're low priority for the electric company.
