Re-finding a hobby I've long missed

Back at Christmas, my kids (thought I think my mom paid for most of it) bought me a Mongoose 29er from Wal-mart. Pretty crappy bike, but it got me back on wheels. I hadn't ridden since I was a teen. But I found a spark of enjoyment in it. Since then ( and a big IRS refund) I bought myself a big Marin 29er a beautiful shade of metallic orange. It was purchased on March 2nd. So far I've logged about 45 miles in 3 days, today I logged the bulk of it, I rode pretty close to 30 miles. For those of you in the D/FW area. It was from Lewisville to Southlake and back. There are a few stresses in my life, work, school, home, my seizures: not many more than anyone else here I'm sure. But this bike seems to help me just let it go, stop worrying about it and just ride. I haven't had that feeling in a long time and it's highly welcome in my life. Right now I'm so tired, but I'm so satisfied and happy because of it.

I've changed my daily schedule a little to also help me out. I'm doing my schoolwork in the mornings before work. That seems to help a little, now I'm going to start riding at night, maybe about 10 miles. It's funny though, I have a program on my phone to track my route; my workout; and calories lost. But I really don't care about it much beyond how the wieght loss will concentrate the medicine I take to counteract my seizures and help me to not have as many. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Just the fact that you're excercising should reduce the frequency of seizures, though I don't know the nature of yours. Ever since my very first deployment that had me in the Lebanon back in '84 to late '85, I have recuring dreams. Right up till I became disabled last year, I used to ride a bike to work and do most of my shoppings on foot since quite soon after the Lebanon I discovered that excercise, more than anything else, helped me sleep at least to such an extend that I didn't remember having dreamed most of the time. As a military person (even in retirement), I closely monitor my food intake. Allthough the fact that I'm close to becoming a senior citizen now and my belly starts to show it, I have always been hoovering around the 155Lbs and the weird thing is that even with the signs of old age, I'm still hoovering there. Many say that I'm blessed by being an Asian too, but 90% of maintaining weight is keeping track on what you shove under your nose. As a muslim, I don't eat pork and I don't drink alcohol (well, unless it's new year's eve). I avoid animal fats and try not to eat meat in general, but since Vitamin B is essential to your brain's wellbeing, I eat meat twice a week. For the rest I eat seafood and salads. I don't use salt, sugar and butter. I do not advise switching to my diet overnight though, I grew up on it and frankly, a visit to McDonalds (I love a Big Mac), makes me sick, though that rarely stops me. Since you're having seizures, I would most certainly change my diet in consultation with my physician or a lisenced dietist. Excercise is not the mother of all solutions. Essentially, 30 minutes of normal actiivty, like merely walking to somewhere instead of taking the car for a 2 mile drive is enough. More is not always better, though it's hard to go wrong with excercise.
