So 66 days left until I join the unemployed...We had a meeting the other day with our group and our manager. Apparently the powers that be wanted all the 6 Sigma managers to ask there employee's for ideas on how else could be done to cut costs. That is correct ladies and gents, even though you are laying my ass off, you want to ask me (now) what else could be done to cut costs to prevent further layoffs.

Now please understand I really do like my boss, he has had my back as much as he possibly can since I have been working for him. But I was pretty much blown away by the question and before I started to "say what I was going to say" I told him, that what I was about to say was not a reflection on him. Then I said, what does it matter, the company is already stretch thin on everything...no color copies, we don't get Styrofoam cups for water/coffee/tea anymore, we stuck the entire corporate campus in one building from 2, bonus’s are gone (for now), no raises (for now), pto accrual has been reduced by 30%, and sales/services have not started to pick up. WTF is left to do. For years we have been pushing to go to a 4/10 or 9 80 work weeks. I would have jumped at this in a heart beat; it reduces the need for your square footage, equipment and utilities. Hell it is even a benefit for the employee, but it has been shut down so many times because some positions here might not be able to use it. I then said does it really matter what anyone does around the office to cut costs, because all they are going to do is lay off more people and hire cheaper labor off shore. It does not matter if you are good at your job or not, if they can get someone cheaper (and it does not matter if they are as skilled as you or not) they will hire them.
Needless to say, the room got a little quite, I could tell my boss wanted to agree with me, but "could not". Yeah that meeting pissed me off a little. But it is, what it is..

Anyway...

Anyone else play Viking Wars on Facebook? It is pretty fun, it is the same type of game model as Mob Wars, but they just added a new element...ACHIEVMENTS!!! It is totally just like XBL, you get them by completing jobs, acquiring specific amounts of cash, surviving fights, etc. You are then awarded with a groovy icon and experience points. I have to admit it makes the game much more fun to do. If you want to join my clan send me a facebook friend request (Mike Coppola) and click on the link.

I've been to many of those meetings LB. I'm fucking tired of all this bullshit of executives thinking that by cutting jobs they will save the company. Why can't they fucking take a loss? Why can't they say "will lose 10 million this year but make it up in two". Things will have to get better. But laying off people isn't the solution. We have gone over pay cuts, forced vacations without pay, and cutting corners until no corner is left to cut. All these actions will roughly save the company around 200,000 dollars this third quarter, yet the overall loss will be over 8 million. So why the fuck go through all this trouble? Take the fucking loss, take it on the chin like a man, and make it up in the next quarter or year.

I hear ya LB fucking sucks. They cut jobs in my divsion (me being one of them) then they took too many students and are now paying more to renovate all the residence hall spaces to make room. So college gets worried financially, cuts jobs, numbers a little lower than expected in March so they start accepting people on the waiting list, now they are over their ideal number by 75 students, so they spend hundreds of thousands of dollars in renovations and still have less staff than they started with. All this and the college is starting to regain finances. GG Meanwhile people still aren't getting their jobs back.
