CDW and being Laughed at..

So my final 100 days (calendar... not work days) at my current job has begun. In their Uber super wisdom, they have seen it fit to consolidate the remaining group in one of our buildings to our building. Okay I get it, saves on rent, get to sub-rent out that space, takes off the numbers on operating costs blah, blah, blah. Well they are reconfiguring and moving some of the cubes to do this. I have been told that it cost around 800 to 1000 dollars to do this. So I suggested to my Sr.Director (very early on in the planning) that why do they not let me use a laptop and let me work from home. I do not deal with sales or anything like that, my “customers” are internal and all I need access to is the network.

Well the director actually laughed at me and said that is funny, not going to happen but if you like you can work out of Mira Loma. This was a joke and not meant to be a real offer, plus I would have to drive almost an hour out of my way to do so.

I was a little pissed that my suggestion was, for a lack of a better word, dismissed. I would be saving the company moving money, it would make my life a easier, even if it was for only 4 more months, and it would look good on the annual commuter survey for the company to put up one more “tick” in the green category…But I guess I am just a fucking idiot and have no understanding on “how the real business world works”.

But I guess to a multi-billion dollar company, the little things don’t count very much.
