Obviously the title for this blog is a little overstated. But please tell me our 202p family is not one of these people that believe "We do not need to give Jonny or Sally vaccines because "God" (insert your preffered deity here) all I have to do is pray to him/her/it and we will be fine)

This post is not meant to be a political/religious/what ever flame war.

Believe, what you want to believe or what you do not want to believe.

But WTF people, it is a statistically proven fact the bennefits of vaccines. Now if you child is allergic or something like that...Okay I get it.

Fuck...can you image skipping a vaccine and then watching your child suffer or die because you thought praying would just make everything okay?!?!?!

ARGGGHHH.

Faith is a great thing, it can help you through horrible times in your life, it can give you a path to following to help others...But sometimes Religion can be worse thing for some people and the world.

I agree. Faith and science can coexist. Immunizations can save lives, we eliminated small pox that way.

Small pox, polio, mumps, flu. A lot of misinformation is out there. Benefit greatly outweighs the risks. But then, most people don't remember how 100 years back families typically lost several kids to disease. Times have changed for the better.

"But sometimes Religion can be worse thing for some people and the world." Correction - the MISUSE of Religion can be worse thing for some people and the world. This ideology that vaccines and modern medicine aren't necessary for people because "Our faith can keep us whole" is in my opinion poor theology and hypocritically applied. This treatment of God reduces Him to either a magic man who can simply make things happen or as a deity who acts only based on the will of His creation. Both are poor rationals imo. If God is God and created humans then surely He isn't bound to our will, we are bound to His. To the first conclusion, can God simply heal by His will? Sure. He could also feed us and cloth us and shelter us and so forth and so on. Yet most folks who believe in faith based medicine (for lack of a better term) go to work to make money to assist in providing the needs of daily life. At the very least, you have to go out and pick the corn before you can eat it. Likewise, if you or I beleive in God, I have tools that God has made available to me to stay healthy.

I find people like that all the time on my mommy boards. The same person who told me I was an idiot for drinking a mt dew while pregnant goes and in the next breath posts how they arent going to vaccinate their kid because its not necessary.

My wife tried to sway me against getting our daughter vaccinated for Human papillomavirus (HPV), but I held firm, and my logical argument trumped her argument. She tried to argue that if our daughter got the vaccine, she may be inclined to have sex at an early age. I argued, that if we do our job right, she'll be smart about it. However, accidents and mistakes do happen, and I'd rather have her protected against such things. So, she'll be getting the vaccine when it is time.

see...all you guys get it...Maybe these other people just do not play video games... Big-I think I get what you are saying. But I would argue that God gives you the tools to stay spiritually healthy..But when it comes down to it, I will not skip on vaccines for my kids, then tell them to go play in a room filled with people suffering from the black plague.

I agree with you LB. Get your kids vaccinated, have doctors treat them when they're sick. God gives us brains and logic too. ;)

A Christian is on the roof of his house, surrounded by water, when a boat comes by and asks him to come in. He says God will take care of him and refuses the boat. A second boat comes by, the water has come closer, and the guy still refuses the ride stating God will take care of him. A chopper hovers overhead, asking the guy to come aboard...yet, he still refuses, remaining true to his belief that God will save him. He dies... Standing at the Pearly Gates, he asks God what happened...God asks, "Well, I sent you two boats and a chopper, what more did you want?" :D

I'm a Christian and we get our kids vaccinated. Wouldn't have it any other way. :)
