I have seriously got to stick to just playing GoW2 MP with clan members. Every time I go public I get my ass handed to me. Not to mention the lag-switching is becoming way too rampant.

I think the old school way of playing games gives credence to the saying of "Can't teach an old dog new tricks." I find that I'm jamming on the thumbsticks way too hard when things get heated up. I'll get a guy lined up with my shotgun and the next thing I know I'm shooting at a wall instead of the guy that was right in front of me 1/2 a second ago. I'm playing like I did when I was kid when I used to nearly push the cross pad right through the NES controller in hopes that Mario might just run a little faster.

The dexterity on these kids that have known nothing but analog control is quite humbling. Their ability to finess the controller in chaotic situations is something that I just don't think I can master.

It actually makes me a bit more empathetic of old ladies driving a car 25 mph in a 40mph zone. Many of those ladies didn't get their license at 16, 20 or even 25. They built a life time of bias of never having to control 5000 pounds of rolling metal. Their young brain didn't have a chance to make all those neural connections that dealt with negotiating 3-D space. Instead their old, bias brain has to deal with lots and lots of information that it just can't process efficiently.

So, to make a conclusion: When playing public multiplayer against all of these young kids that have known nothing but (and have mastered) analog control...I am the old lady in the over-sized Buick that everyone screams at to get off the road.

Damn whippersnappers.

Time can be a cruel mistress. At least you know your strengths and can exploit appropriately...that's your wisdom showing. ;)

I think you are definitely onto something there. Just think about the leaps in dexterity you had to do going from 2d scrolling like mario to adding vertical like donkey kong to zaxxon (pseudo 3d). And then with pc games like duke nukem and doom where there were real 3d environments. Took hours of practice everyday to get good. As adults, we play a few hours a week on what are essentially little supercomputers with awesome capabilities. Kids have been practicing and learning on this stuff from day one. Damn- youth is wasted on the young, isn't it? It is like moving from behind the wheel of your buick to a ferrari - familiar with the concept but a whole new world.

My son isn't even 2 yet. He can't form real, complete sentences or even express complicated thoughts. He knows how to click a mouse. Whenever he sees me open up Itunes on my computer, he jumps for joy and says JAI HO! *his favorite song right now* and we have to play it or he freaks. If I sit him on my lap and play a less violent video game (like Portal or viva pinata) he has his own old cordless game cube controller and he mimics my movements with it. Its crazy. You think the young teens are kicking our asses? Just wait until my son's generation gets a little older. These kids will be our new non pakistani tech support! Don't worry dude. I like playing with you on gow2. :)

no worries epic gimping roadie run and roll with the 2sec (do anything) delay makes me feel like im totally incapable of doing anything affective in the game too... if its not changed, ill patiently wait till 2010 when capcoms coming out with a new Graw3, and LostPlanet2 for my shooter needs.
