Today is the day the 25th anniversary release of R.E.M.'s "Lifes Rich Pageant" hits stores. This is one of my all-time favorite albums and easily my favorite of theirs.
Along with the remaster, which is getting great reviews, they included some demo tracks from the recording sessions. Spin.com was streaming everything last week and the demo tracks are great. It was interesting to hear "Bad Day" sung over the music for "It's The End Of The World As We Know it". "Bad Day" wouldn't see light until their "Best Of" album in 2004-ish and "It's The End Of The World..." wouldn't see a release until their next album.
Hopefully a local store has this is in stock. I don't want to wait for this to ship from some online retailer. I usually buy my music from Amazon ($5 albums FTW!) but since this is a new release of a band I truly love, I want the physical copy.
For shits and grins, here's the opening track from the album as performed in 2003:
